Re: The best case of 2013 ?
Bumper Brawn.
Yumi's Love Story introduced Shuukichi who is a pretty cool new character, but also typical Gosho pairing up everybody. At least they met as adults. I don't remember caring about the case so it was probably mediocre or worse.
Shrine Passing - Surprise Vermouth and Bourbon which is a technique Gosho has not used before. Gosho's passing Jodie a completely unneeded and probably unnecessary-if-he-tweaked-the-order-of-events-a-little idiot ball ruined the case for me completely. Case was Suspicious Eisuke II but not as entertaining.
Sorrow Cocktail - Kogoro-centric which makes it great. It's my 2nd favorite I think of this year's cases. I'm still not convinced Yuzu was not Kid in disguise. If not, I hope she shows up again. Jii could have used an in-person cameo. Case was decent.
Steamy Relations - A challenging case, one of the hardest in a long time. I was still not sure which of the two suspects was the culprit when the answer rolled around. The clues mostly came together, but I feel like the complexity wasn't completely justified. If the culprit went through the motions of getting chloroform and was smart enough to create a multi-layered trick to implicate himself weakly and then the other woman with a stronger trap once the first trick layer was discovered, then why not just get the victim drunk somewhere and knock her down some concrete stairs to make it look like she tripped? Geez, why bother with making yourself one of three suspects who must have done it? It kind of felt like a bad excuse for Conan to beat Sera again.
Twin Bets - Makoto was entertaining. I just ignored the case part all together. Alexandrite is pretty.
Taii's Owner is a mostly forgettable Bourbon case followed by some of the best Sato Takagi interaction in years made even better by awkward DB questions. I almost picked this one for best just for the SxT, but the case was slightly too open ended with its clues. I proofed a different solution in real life to show it was practical. Stuff like that reminds me Gosho can't think of everything, so sometimes Conan's self-assurance in his solutions seems fake.
A Missing Item - Another great Sato and Takagi case, just when you think it couldn't get better. I was busy during the month of this case so I really didn't get to see the full impact. I tend not to like cases where it feels like a math problem: write down everyone's schedules, account for missing time.
The Red Woman - Despite being a long file, I just couldn't feel the horror of this one. Some case clues open ended, but otherwise things added up in proper fashion. Credit for the twist ending though by having an outside person be the other culprit.
Romance Novelist - Solid case. It contains Japanese wordplay which dampens the fun a bit, but at least it wasn't necessary to the murder trick. Very sad case ending. Overarching plot-wise we made a little progress, but not as much as I would have liked to see. I wish we finished some of the Bourbon stuff first.
Ebisu Bridge I haven't read yet.
- Technically interesting murder trick with no badly done clues or overlooked/missing details that should have been clues.
- Included Makoto who is a rare but interesting character. Hilariousness and fighting ensued which made up for part of the time he went to sleep in the car and the time he ran off to find the culprit by looking for killing intent.
- Still managed to include Makoto and Sonoko antics despite the overarching plot of this case centering on Sera and her middle brother and the past meeting with Ran and Conan. It didn't feel so piled on despite being pretty heavy stuff because Gosho transplanted some of the Sera plot into part 2 of the case instead of leaving it all in parts 1 and 3 like he usually does.
- Also included Sera ribbing on Conan for doing the Sleeping Kogoro jig. It's nice to see Conan take some flack from time to time.
- Kogoro being typical Kogoro.
- Yamamura being typical Yamamura but not so annoying. Testing the murder trick on him was funny.

Re: The best case of 2013 ?
I voted for Sorrow Cocktail for several reasons :
-I enjoyed the fact the case was present in a different and rather original way with the story-telling being done from Kogoro's point of view.
-Kogoro has been severely underused in the past few months/years and I enjoyed having a case where he was basically the center of attention.
-The setting, despite not being very original, was still rather pleasant and I liked the bartender as a character.
The 'Red Woman' case would probably be second. It loses a few points because of its disappointing and (IMO) rushed ending.

The Red Woman was so damn good.
I think it's better than Vampire Mansion because in Vampire Mansion it was almost holding your hand during the case, though Vampire Mansion had that serial killer stuff going on and I preferred the culprit.
The Red Woman had a great background story and I loved the way the characters were placed there, I still remember what they were doing.
Blonde was cleaning with Ran and Sonoko, Conan and Sera were investigating the strange occurrences and Sera was doing something else
The bigger dude was at shop I think 1km from the Villa they were located at, and met Conan and Sera on the way back giving him an even stronger alibi.
The other woman was doing dishes and thinking of starting to make food.
Sonoko and Ran were the witnesses, only hearing what the people are talking about because doors were closed.
Body had been drowned with weighs on it to keep the body underwater and the bath was filled with tomatoes.
Ran fanservice.
I know, crazy case.

Re: The best case of 2013 ?
Since files 879-881 is are now out then I can say why I voted for them
1- Conan busted
2- Heibara cares about fashion more than I imagined
3- Conan teased by the DBs
4- DBs were not annoying for me this time
5- Heiji+Kazuha
6- Conan is evil
7- Different case from the usual, no murder

I vote for the Bumper Brawn case. It was down to this and the Ebisu Bridge case for me. The code in the Bridge case was awesome but the romance scenes almost made me puke so that's why I'm picking the Bumper Brawn. Sorry for the lazy explanation.

I vote for Red Woman case : plot information, original end-twist (never seen before in DC I think) and multiple deaths.

Makoto VS KID
this is a long waited one because of Sonoko's constant love of KID while Ran's warning of telling Makoto
Basically an confrontation is inevitable but Makoto rarely shows up in Conan so I've been waiting forever. All the cases with appearance of Makoto are a lot of fun.
Of course it's also a KID case so that's bonus points!
As for the other cases:
The Red Woman's ending was kind of weak....
The constant Bourbon and Sera sneak peek is making me hype but scratching my head and getting even more confused! I need the truth!!!! ahhhh
