I totally thought for a moment it would.

But alas, Gosho Aoyama was just pulling my leg.

...the jerk.

You really make a incredibly valid point.

Honestly, Ran is a bit more suspicious than the average person. Most people would totally dismiss the thought that a person could shrink. Even if Conan is surprisingly similar to Shinichi there are many different logical conclusions that a sane person could reach to disprove the notion.

I too doubt very seriously that if I ran into a kid that looked suspiciously like a childhood friend of mine that I could come to the conclusion that my friend had been shrunk. In fact, I'm not even sure I'd recognize them unless I just happened to have a photo lying around (like Ran did).

And not to mention how many times she's run into Conan and Shinichi standing right next to each other. No matter that they were tricks. After awhile, you just don't question it anymore. Which is why I liked the OVA where Shinichi finally confessed his identity. Even if it was all a dream, Ran's reaction was genuine. There's no way she would believe him.

The only thing I think that could convince her now is if he transforms in front of her.  :o

What bothers me is more the fact that she figures out things like the fact that Conan's leading Kogoro to figure out a lot about a case and that Conan pretended to not know how to skate then a few minutes later skated ver well and yet after ONE LITTLE THING pops up to convince her that no, Conan is not Shinichi, she completly forgets these things and never gives them another thought and seems to never even question why Conan did these things.
Probably because it's too unrealistic to take seriously.  There was even that part of the manga where Conan became Shinichi again for the play and Ai was acting as a sick Conan.  She saw the two together.  I don't blame her for putting it off because it's illogical to even suspect it in general.

I think it's also because she's in denial, I think that she actually wants there to be evidence to disprove Conan=Shinichi because to her the alternative (that Shinichi has seen how hurt she is and still refused to tell her, the person who he's known since childhood about the entire situation, as well as the fact that he told other people before her: Hattori for one) is too terrible for her to want to believe. So she refuses to.
That's my opinion on it anyway...  ;D

No, that's a good point. The idea that Conan and Shinichi are the same person would not only come as a great shock. But it would be a huge betrayal of trust. She loves Shinichi but considers Conan her confidante. I would be both embarrassed and upset to find my crush had been lying to me for years whilst disguised as my confidante. Even if it was totally unintentional on Shinichi's part. It's still a rather big grave he's dug for himself. If the truth ever does get out, not only will Ran be devastated- I'm pretty sure she'll be pretty pissed off too.

Shinichi has to be REAL careful how he tells her.

But I'm under the impression that Shinichi's hoping that he won't ever have to tell her. That he could solve the case, capture the bad guys, make Conan disappear and make a miraculous reappearance as Shinichi. I understand both Agasa and Haibara's want to keep Shinichi's identity secret. And telling Ran would probably make her needlessly worry. But at this point, if Conan does get captured- you can be sure that neither Kogorou or Ran would be safe. He may have tried to keep his identity secret to protect himself and the Mori's at first. But at this point, it's just naiive of him to think that the Black Org won't put 2 and 2 together.

So Conan better not get caught.

To be honest, I can't help but wonder if the BO is even still all that interested in him.  Seems Ai would be more of a threat (and target) than Conan at this point.

Oh yeah, totally forgot about Akai.  Yeah, I doubt Shinichi is a concern to them right now.  Ai and Akai are more of a priority, and a threat to the BO.

I don't even think they were made aware of Shinichi at all. Do they even know if he's alive?

I know they briefly had an interest in Conan and Kogoro but their skirmish with Akai seemed to deflect their interest in the two. Now Bourbon could change all that if he suspects that Shinichi is still alive. But I think his main goal is finding Sherry, right? Well that and Akai.

Basically, what you said. ^^;
