Maybe trying to kill Irish is the reason why Vodka and Gin are shooting up the Tokyo tower.
This is the one thing that makes me think this might actually advance the canon Org. plot. Using an attack helicopter for an assassination is just over-the-top ludicrous. Attacking the tower as part of a plan to cut communications for a much bigger operation makes more sense. I can't imagine an excuse that doesn't make the tower itself the real target that's not totally lame, even by anime original writing standards. I guess "because it's exciting" will be the real excuse, though.
ETA: Wait, I have an idea. Irish is planning to broadcast something that will expose the Org., attacking the tower to incapacitate the communications equipment will prevent the broadcast. This would make the tower itself a target while preserving the canon status quo. Using the helicopter is a risk, but is better than allowing the broadcast, so it's not quite so over-the-top OOC for the Org.

That's a pretty decent idea. They could also have used the helicopter because it is the fastest way to get to the tower and stop Irish before he broadcasts rather than trying to foot it up the tower. Another idea not involving broadcasting is that Gin and Vodka used the helicopter because there are police everywhere and escape wasn't assured via car. If the scene where Sato and Takagi are in a car together occurs the same evening as the tower incident, which is likely due to Sato's outfit, the cops are out in force.
I suppose if anyone can get an unmarked, untraceable helicopter into the middle of Tokyo without getting asked questions by air traffic control, it's the Black Organization. I suppose by the time police helicopters come or the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (whatever it is called) scramble jet or two to intercept, they will have already flown away to their secret helipad in the batcave... I still think a helicopter is ridiculous, the expense of one just screams "large shadowy organization."

Well they blew up a skyscraper to erase some files...but then again they were trying to kill Sherry too, so that might be the case here.
I think we're relating too much of it to previous episodes, movies etc. Something new perhaps?

Seconded!
My hero, too! XDDD
Yes, the helicopter is very odd for the organization. Hopefully they have an explanation nearly as good as yours, Nyarl. ^.^
I'm interested in how Aoyama wants to get a "scarlet thread" (sorry I'm just translating it from German so perhaps Sherlock Holmes said something different in the original) in all this. After the second realfilm there was no reset. So perhaps... perhaaaaps??? Well, we will see.

So that's what he does on vacation...?
Irish is an appropriate name for a member in the BO. This 'drunkard' stereotype of the Irish is entirely correct in the fact that when the great depression happened in the United States, Ireland was going through a worse one. Having just separated from Britain and such, most of the husbands had no jobs and would drink all day. It is a sad history, but true never-the-less.
