Well even so, Gosho put the "woman lips" on the hairless shadow person. (Or maybe Misa had chemo and was wearing a wig? ;)) Also I could see why he might skip on the woman's hair. I think Gosho was trying to make it seem like James Black and Jodie could have been the ones sitting in their, or Vermouth and Araide, or some other duo. Leaving out the hair on the woman was kind of necessary to avoid having her hairstyle give it all away. Balding the man wasn't necessary as all the men have kind of similar hairstyles and as long as it wasn't too detailed or shown very clearly, the ambiguity would work out.

So you're pretty set on Misa and Billy being the two, eh?  Would be interesting if it did indeed turn out to be so.

It's because I ruled out Jodie and James and the real Araide and someone else being the followers. Jodie and James don't seem to smoke, and we haven't seen any female members of the FBI in Japan except for Jodie. Araide doesn't smoke either, and he was supposed to be in overseas while under protection from the FBI. The characters were drawn with some detail, which is a little unusual for Gosho who most often uses pure shadowmen. The two cases are practically adjacent (410-412, 417-419). Billy is also an English name, which would make sense for someone with American connections. This is a case where enough minor details convince me there is a pattern. I have no idea if this is a dropped storyline or a Chekhov's gun.
