Hello! I'm fairly new here but have been a Conan fan for... well... I don't remember how long (kinda says something) ;D

Anyway... It's most likely been discused before but anyone have any theorys on why the APTX 4869 only effected Shinichi, Shiho and the test mouse?

They keep saying that they are only by chance, but I would bet that it like some ultra-rare genetic mutation or something :o

Any other theorys? :)

I think there was a theory about only smart people were affected.  There's some thing here: http://forums.dctp.ws/viewtopic.php?p=5166#p5166.

A strong rumour has been going around that the surviving victims have a high intelligence, but it's a bit weird related to the mouse ... Unless it was a very smart mouse for its kind :P

I'm not sure myself ... Maybe something special in the DNA which, in cooperation with the drug, causes the cells to be able to endlessly divide themselves instead of destructing themselves by dividing themselves at a very rapid rate and reaching their limit (I read something about that being possible if they indeed found a way to overcome that limit in a Belgian magazine based on Scientific American). Maybe because it accelerates the cell's dividing rate and possibly removed the limit (as a consequence of the victims's "special" DNA), Shinichi and Shiho became kids. In that case, if they tested the drug on Shinichi's parents (Shiho's are already dead), we'd know the answer. Oh, and it would make sense if the original purpose of the drug was immortality, since removing the limit of the cells's dividing rate means the cells can divide themselves endlessly and won't die, i.e. you become immortal.

We actually need to know the original purpose of that drug to discover why Shinichi etc. survived the drug.

Intrusting... I don't think he would risk his parent's lifes for the answer thou, maybe a cell sample^^

Also, IQ is mostly based on cogintion, not biology... and the way poisons work, geneics (or DNA) is the best explation

At first glance it's a good threoy with some fun explinations thou^^

Did you know that the ends of ur chromosomes are useless, but as you get older, the ends get shorter and shorter and shorter. I think the drug only affects young people becuase in order for the process of cell division to reverse, the chromosomes must be still intact and full. Becuase older people lose some bits of their DNA, then it will be harder to reverse the process. Besides, the younger you are, the less cells you have to reverse. Also, the process looks really painful, so I'm guessing only younger people, who need less time, can survive.
That's my theory.
