I think a similar topic may have been made before, but whatever...

Why do you watch/read DC?

I do for basically the cases and the plot. There is an incredible variety in the cases which are more often then not challenging and enjoyable (except for that period in the late 500s where I felt Gosho became really uninspired, but I'm glad we're past that.)

The plot I find pretty great as well. It might not be as great as it was in the past, but I still find it very enjoyable.

In order of relevance to me (I think)
1. The vast, vast majority of episodes are really entertaining.
2. The plot is compelling to the point that a mystery character I've turned into a running gag with an evil smile is like 2 plot twists from most lesser anime in terms of excitement.
3. The cases are still very good for the most part and enough times are very praise worthy.
4. The characters are incredibly fun even if they aren't exactly super deep or super creative
5. I need to see where everything goes god dammit.
6. I've spent so much time on the series I need to see how it ends.

For the mysteries, as i am a mystery geek (have all the books of jeffery archer, sidney sheldon, agatha christie, A.C.D). And also as DC in itself is like a delicacy. An enjoyable ART, to be savoured. I like the characters and their interactions. I like the intricate details. I am now very personally invested in the story after following it for over 7 years.

^^ This. Also, it has it all for me, mystery, romance, plot, comedy, its closeness to reality...what's there not to like?

soo, the reasons for me ... in no particular order ...

1. I'm a major mystery/detective geek. be it Conan, Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, *insert any random awesome detective/mystery/crime series, be it a book, movie, anime or tv series*
2. because the cases are awesome.
3. sometimes people complain, how nothing happens for ages and then there's massive development. I like that actually ... >__>
4. STORY IS AWESOMETASTIC. i think i've re-read the whole manga several times now, never get bored of it.
5. relationship developments! :DD at the moment thinking, whether or not I'll see Hei x Kazu scene in near future ...
6. all the non-canon things, like movies, OVAs, specials ... add to the awesomeness.
7. it's probably my fave anime of all times.

soo, the conclusion of it all, I've been watching the Conan anime/reading manga for about 12 years now. Man, how time flies ...

Too many positive reasons~ ^_^

But mostly because:
* You learn a lot from it. And you think a lot while reading/watching.
* The story! You'll want to see how it will end.

I mainly like watching Conan because it's a series where I feel like I can catch up to it anytime no matter how long I've been away from it, unlike most other anime series. Plus, I REALLY like trying to figure out the cases myself as I watch each episode unfold.

Good question. Meitantei Conan is like a cartoon for adults. They don't dumb down the endings. You have to be smart to get them.  The dead bodies, and the fact that passion is a motive often puts this on a higher plain than other mystery cartoons. Don't get me started on the ocean of lameness that is Scooby-Doo.

I watch it for the plot. Yeah.

But also because of the mysteries involved in each cases which I find interesting and keeps my brain from doing the work it should do and gets rids of my laziness to think from time to time. (Although some of them isn't really hard to crack at all.)

Also, because of Ai. Can't get enough of that Ai.

Yes, it's lame, but the original series is awesome nonetheless!
