Detective Conan getting cancelled in Japan?...
I've read in the past few days in the DCTP Linker from some users that Detective Conan might get cancelled because of low ratings and the change of schedule that was just announced in the file 666.
I mean, can it really get cancelled just by moving it up 30 minutes before its usual air time? And one more thing I wanted to ask was about the ratings... the last episode of DC had a 7.9% of ratings... how low (or high) is that considered and how low does it have to get to so it can be cancelled? Is that average rating nation-wide (as in Japan) or only the region of KantÅ

Re: Detective Conan getting cancelled in Japan?...
Conan's ratings are still considered quite good by comparison to other shows in its timeslot--it just doesn't dominate as it once did.
Don't get worried about it getting canceled until something solid come out. All the box says is that the airing time is being moved to 7:00 instead of 7:30. They could be using this as a way to introduce a new show after Conan, hoping viewers stick around and boost ratings for it or something. It's no big deal, as of now.

Re: Detective Conan getting cancelled in Japan?...
lower ratings... no time slot domination...
this seems to be the explanation of why from the "last" year [october'07 (487) to november'08 (516)] we cannot find any anime original episodes (yes, except 489 and 512). they must be trying to avoid doing fillers in order to keep the audience up.
manga is at vol 64 and anime has already reached vol 61. things are becoming interesting...

Re: Detective Conan getting cancelled in Japan?...
The network has been canceling 7:00 anime that could pull better ratings than Conan can nowadays. Conan being moved there could be a sign that they're no longer blaming Conan's lead-in for Conan's ratings decline. The golden hour is still the golden hour, other shows/events (not just "Nep League", Baseball, or the Olympics) running through Conan's time slot get 15%+ ratings.
Another sign that they are not happy with Conan's ratings is the decline in the amount new Conan animation produced in a year (both in number of episodes and total run time). That lack of "filler" hasn't boosted Conan's ratings, either…
Who knows, maybe they’ll try another timeslot move before canceling it, but Conan is clearly in a long term decline with no signs of leveling off, and the network is certainly unhappy with that.
One thing in Conan's favor is that its ratings are still better than most other anime, almost always in the top 5… better than Bleach, Naruto, and Pokemon which (last I checked) run in similar weekday evening timeslots. However, they are more successful internationally, and I believe the networks have a share of that revenue… I know Conan's copyright is shared by Yomiuri TV (© Gosho Aoyama / Shogakukan • YTV • TMS).

Re: Detective Conan getting cancelled in Japan?...
If you check the ANN site on Detective Conan, you can see the ratings it along with other popular animes had for the week(unfortunately, the newest is 9/8-9/14). It also shows the dates they aired, and looking at it, all the dates of shows that got a higher rating than Detective Conan were on Fridays and Sundays while Detective Conan airs on Mondays. Of course Detective Conan is not attracting as much as it was during its golden years, but the weekdays vs weekend animes might say something about Conan's popularity compared to others.
By the way, I think that the only thing worse than cancelling Detective Conan is to end it like the Inuyasha anime

Re: Detective Conan getting cancelled in Japan?...
Yes, it's probably the beginning of the end for Conan, but there's no telling how long that will take. Obviously they want to pull in as much of the series resolution story line as they can.
My guess is that people who started watching Conan years ago when it started are migrating away from watching it now, and there's a concern about pulling in new viewers. Ergo the many reworked specials this year.
Still, given it's still in the top 5 most watched anime in Japan probably says it will be around a bit longer.

I just hope NTV doesn't let it die, so the anime is left unfinished.

Don't worry, Conan is still one of the top watched shows in Japan, I don't really think it gonna be cancelled.

Re: Detective Conan getting cancelled in Japan?...
I'd just like to point out that this exact same conversation was brought up last year when Conan moved down to the 7:00 slot to accomodate it's hour long specials. Considering we already know at least the next one or two episodes are hour long specials, why not assume they're following a similar plan that they used last year?
In fact, I believe the ratings are up from last year (...don't hold me to this). If I recall, before the October break last year it was at like 6.8%, versus the 7.9% or whatever this year. Honestly, let's stop all the doom saying and such. It's more likely to just adapt a yearly schedule similar to it's fall/winter schedule, and just do hour-long case-episodes every 2-3 weeks.

I really don't think it's the beginning of the end of Conan. I don't think it'll ever get cancelled.. or at least not before a long, long time!
As you guys said, it's still in the Top-5 Anime which is GREAT (even though it should be #1 but, oh well
).
Plus, the story is getting more interesting and exciting each episode, manga file..

Conan is no longer a hit in Japan?
I hope they won't end it yet cuz there is no proper way to end the anime other than following teh manga unless they make a shitty self-made ending LOL

Re: Detective Conan getting cancelled in Japan?...
ANN usually lists the TV rankings (Kanto area) for anime broadcasts each week, you can check them out there (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com). Of course the old stand-by's of Sazae-san, Chibi Maruko-chan, Doraemon, and Shin-chan lead the list, but Conan frequently gets the coveted 5th spot.
As for broadcast schedules, you're on your own there. It would basically depend on where you are located, and what your local broadcasters are. Of course, broadcast is in Japan only.
And yes, I was referring to the "Fall Mystery Special" digital-remastered broadcasts they did last year in September.
