I'm just wondering what would be the right age to watch Detective Conan?
I'm probably the youngest here. =/

12/13 and above? I guess you can watch it if you're younger too, if you're mature enough to understand what's going on

True that, Aluecard 8)
Actually, you are not the oldest here. I know there is someone like in their thirties in these forums (I forgot who it was, but it's not me

)
And about this topic, I think it depends on the country. In America, I think it would be age 16+ (with kids watching it anyways), but for anywhere else in the world, It's like ages 6+.

Kids can watch, I guess. The murder scenes are not so gross to look at (except for episode 1, cause that was rockin' cool! 8)) I think the anime version also attempts to make the dead bodies look less gruesome compared to the manga. Though I think kids won't appreciate the intellectual essence of the murder trick that much, I guess

DC is in shounen but also goes a bit into seinen
so 12 onwards is definitely the right age.
not that kids shoudn't watch it but i doubt they even know wat the word murder means.

To fully understand it I would say 13+
But I watched it when they first aired it here in Argentina and I enjoyed it (I was 8, now I'm 18)

As for me, I don't think there is a right age to read or watch Detective Conan.
That's always the same : it depends on your education, on your frame of mind, on your maturity. Not only because of notions such as murder, but also because of likes. It would be preferable to enjoy this manga from the first reading, or watching.
I started at the age of 10, but I can't tell that I decided to.
Detective Conan chose for me ^^

To get license to watch, age 12+ (my guess)
To understand, age 15+
To challenge Conan/Shinichi, age 20+ (may be)
I myself is 18 yrs. and I find it difficult to always find the complete reasoning. Although occassionally I catch the culprit.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add that it also depends where you're from, I guess. I think anywhere besides America it's a family show though.
@ previous poster (it wouldn't let me quote D: ) : I can't ever get the trick or evidence, but I always have a strong feeling toward who the murderer is. I remember in one episode, I dunno, the character like turned their head in a weird way and glared at the person sitting next to them(but maybe this was just me) and I was like "Oh sh--, that's the murderer" and I was right even though that had nothing to do with anything

This is a show watched by families in Japan. Both parents and kids. So, no real "right age" exists I think; it can be enjoyed at any age. I doubt someone has to be like 13+ or whatever to understand, this stuff isn't really rocket science. I remember watching murder mysteries on TV when I was 7.
If is a question of "appropriate" then it really depends on whether you buy into the American stupidity of thinking children are "pure and innocent" and easily troubled (which, IMO, couldn't be farther from the truth -- tho it's possibly a self-fulfilling meme, something that Americans have in fricken spades).
