Updates on DC outside Japan
OKay, I'm not sure on whether or not to put this on 3 seperate topics or 1 topic, so I chose the latter of the 2 choices.
Firstly, there is a DVD set coming out in 10/7/08 on the 2 movies already dubbed, called the Case Closed: Double Feature.
Personally, it's not that special, but here is a link where I got the info from.(Just the pic on the cover and the release date)
http://www.mania.com/aodvb/showthread.php?t=84572
Secondly, The Conan game that came out for the Wii is coming outside of Japan. Unfortunately, it's not hitting the US and going to be released in Europe as Case Closed - The Mirapolis Investigation. Here is the source I got it from.

Lastly, this is more of a rumor, since there is no credible source, but there might be more episodes being dubbed with the other Season sets coming out. The latest episode number to be dubbed would be episode 130, but because that is by how it is numbered in English, and 1 hour+ episodes are broken apart, that would bring it to episode 123 in Japan. My "source" is from a forum site, so this might be unconfirmed unless someone else has a better source. Also, I heard of this on the Wikipedia article on DC, so I'll give that as well.

^ In my opinion, the dub is okay.
I doubt that everyone here thinks dubs "suk".
I heard about the double-feature thing, though I'm really just gonna pass on that because I already have those two movies. I'll pick up a boxset when it reaches the episode numbers that equate with what I haven't bought yet.
Thanks for the info; I don't get much news on what goes on outside Japan with DC, so I can keep up with how things are going here.
The whole show may not come here due to lack of popularity, so I want to get them in English while I still can.

Re: Updates on DC outside Japan
Here's what I got out of my friend at Funimation while at Otakon concerning Case Closed:
Any episodes they release will continue in the current season format until they no longer have the show. They will not go back to 3/4 episodes per disc or even 6 per disc with Conan, only the 26 episode season "boxes".
They will release up through at least season five no matter what, but that might even be season six, he couldn't remember exactly. After that point, whether they continue or not will be based on the sales of the season sets.
He thinks they have at least one more movie scheduled to be dubbed (Last Wizard), but admitted that character issues would end up delaying it more than likely.
Seasons will come out at three month intervals.
Funimation's CEO's favorite anime is Slayers.
That last one had nothing to do with Conan, but I asked him if season four of Slayers was going to be licensed and that was his response.

If you ask me, I prefer watching subs than dubs... It's about seiyu quality, you know... I just feel like dubbers speak with "less emotion" (conclusion after comparison)Shakura wrote: ^ In my opinion, the dub is okay.I doubt that everyone here thinks dubs "suk".

Though I still watch dubs, cause DC's aired in our country 10-10:30 am every weekdays

Re: Updates on DC outside Japan
Well, now it seems I have a place I need to direct my money towards, other than food and video games. I might just buy the official episodes, rather than get it free online. I also have to buy the new volumes of the manga on those same months.GinRei wrote: Here's what I got out of my friend at Funimation while at Otakon concerning Case Closed:

With movie 3, I think if it is possibly dubbed, it would come out next year at this month or possibly later. They will probably release Case Closed season boxes every 2 months(meaning ep 130 is out by March 2009), but that is under the idea that every season box comes out 2 months at a time.
PS: Lucky you got connections in Funimation and You even went to Otakon

Re: Updates on DC outside Japan
Rather than create a new topic I figured I would bump this one.
I recently contacted Colleen Clinkenbeard the English speaking voice actress for Ran/Rachel through her myspace. As she has close ties to Funimation and works on other shows as well, I decided to ask her a question regarding the future of Detective Conan in the US.
My Message:
Hi there I'm a big fan of Case Closed and your work on the show. If I understand correctly when the next DVD comes out in May, Season 5, all the currently English dubbed material will be used up. I was curious if you have any idea if Funimation will continue to dub more episode with the original voice cast, or if we are out of luck and this is the end of the road for english speaking Case Closed fans.
Anyways sorry to bug you like this on your page. Thanks for taking the time to read and keep up the great work.
Colleen's Response:
I know we recently recorded a movie, but I'm not sure if that's the DVD coming out in May. If not... there's that to look forward to. Other than that we have stopped recording Case Closed as far as I know.
Sorry!
So the good news is that they did recently record something, the third movie. This is something that has been worrying me as they hadn't recorded anything since 2004 and I was thought they might have had a hard time getting the voice cast back together, but after doing some research it appears that a lot of the Voice Cast works for Funimation on other animes so they would have no issues getting them in for some work.
But other than that production has stopped, and as others have said in this thread it looks like our only hope of getting more episodes is if these final seasons 4 and 5 do well in the market.

Re: Updates on DC outside Japan
I know for a fact that they the sixth movie translated. one of the people at funi on their site was saying how it took a lot of work to translate. also someone at funimation screwed up the "case closed" page for the funi video portal by uploading a image from the sixth movie as the background for the page. it is great to hear they recorded the the third movies dub track and we should get it
