Starting on August 11th, a novel for Detective Conan, titled "Detective Conan - the witch of Egamibara" will be out for sale. (Egamibara is a name of a place - I could be wrong about my reading of it)

Conan and others go to Egamibara for sightseeing. They got threatening letters from a witch about serial murders, and they got involved in them.

Could it be true that these serial locked room cases were done by a real witch?

It seems that Gosho is credited with coming up with the scenario (or it could just be crediting Gosho for creating Detective Conan), but the actual writing for this one is credited to 平良隆久... I don't want to try guessing the right readings for that name, as i'm sure I'd get it wrong.

This is actually the fifth conan novel to be published, the first of which was published in 2005. All are solely available in Japanese, and the last two were based on the scripts of the TV dramas. The first novel was titled "The Legend of Koushuu's Buried Treasure", and the second was "Symphony of Murder".

Where did you get that date, Miyano? Amazon lists July 11th o_O

Anyhow, all of the novels released thus far are available on amazon.co.jp, and this one is up for preorder.

Watch out for those ridiculous int'l shipping rates though :P

The whole novel idea is starting to be done nowadays with anime. I've seen novelizations of Naruto, Kenshin, FMA, and now Detective Conan. (or is it recently being introduced in the US?)

That's one of the reasons I still don't have contacts. The old "I'm not flicking you off, I'm adjusting my spectacles" trick.

:D No.  As far as I know, the middle finger holds no special meaning in Japanese culture.

From (http://ask.yahoo.com/20030717.html) :

Though the interpretation of the gesture varies from country to country, it is fairly widespread. In England, one might display either the middle finger solo, or the index and middle finger together (with the palm facing inward) to convey the same message. And in a recent court case in Japan, a judge ruled, "The sign of raising the middle finger with the back of one's right hand down is recognized in Japan as an act signifying insult or provocation, although it is not as common as in the U.S."

Wow they actually said that in court x64_02?  That's kind of funny xD.  Anyways from traveling in asia I can safely say middle finger is pretty much understood everywhere ;D...so yes it is offensive to give the middle finger whether you're in USA or Hong Kong or Tokyo xD.

Blame it on the american movies I guess?

Hmm I never thought of it that way, I push up my glasses with my middle finger as well xDD (I hope no one takes it the wrong way LOL)

And just in case anyone's interested, the "finger" began in the English-French wars when the English archers would hold up their two shooting fingers to taunt the French, basically saying, "cut them off if you can" because the French would routinely have them amputated so the archers couldn't shoot their bows any more.

Just a bit of trivia. :D
