The Famous Stars of Conan

The title isn't quite as specific as I like it to be, but it's gripping at least.
I was working on the latest episode just then, and during my break, I realized something: the famous people Gosho creates for his stories are like... The most unbelievable in the world. Sure, some of them
make sense in the context of the story (Gosho is a very talented writer, after all) and that's more than OK, but they don't hold up to much scrutiny.
Usually, their fame and ensuing downfall are a part of the plots of the stories, and that's great (they usually make for some pretty riveting motives, to say the least), but... When you think about it later, their amount of fame doesn't quite make much sense. I guess this is the part where we mention how famous a private eye that falls asleep all the time to solve cases is, but we can look over that for now.

I would mention Yoko Okino, too, as she is actually believable in most senses (considering how wild Japanese people go over certain idols), but there's not much to say there considering how sparse her appearances are.
(Potential spoilers below if you haven't seen 238-239)
We've seen tons and tons of stars in Conan that Gosho's created, but are any of them really believable? This is anime/manga, so they don't have to be, but it's always a plus. I've been thinking back on some of the more prominent cases, and one of the few I could come up with was Ray from 238-239. Of all of the cases, he seems the most believable to me. It may be because he, even as a character, is easy to identify with due to how much his story reflects on aging sportsmen of today. You can really believe his background story and everything, simply because he comes off as a very real character.
Speaking of unrealistic, though, how about the other guys in that case? Holy...
What instances come to mind when you think of the realistic stars in all the many Conan cases?

Oh yes I do!
Kudo Yusaku, a mystery writer being so famous, with fans and all just doesn't make any sense

It's not that hard to believe. Just think of J.K. Rowling and her crazy Harry Potter stories. Who's to say Night Baron isn't their version of Harry Potter?
Though some of the famous people are a little weird. Who'd kill someone because of plastic surgery, for example?

About the 3K's Case I like the fact that they tell you why two of them know japanese and the other one doesn't I think that makes it believable too, I like to know why foreigners would speak japanese, unlike the episode of the New York case when they meet Sharon, and every single actor speaks japanese!!! Come on, they are in New York not Tokyo!! ^_^ I wouldn't mind even a silly explanation, but everyone speaking japanese is a little too much, right?? they tell you the inspector has a japanese wife but even the officers talk to him in japanase ^_^

I'm sure in that instance it was just easier for them to do the majority of the dialogue in Japanese despite the fact they were in NYC. The funny thing about this particular case is how FUNi will manage to handle it with the dub, assuming they make it that far that is.
I agree with you though, it seems like an explanation of any kind would've worked better.

At least the taxi driver spoke English. And the FBI guys. Always having a silly explanation for why everyone speaks Japanese will get annoying after a while (how many, "I was an english teacher in Japan before I became a hot-dog seller here in New York" do we really wanna hear). It's easier just to avoid the issue. Just look at sci-fi stuff, no matter what planet they go to, yep, they speak English there too.

I agree, there isn't always a need for an explanation when someone speaks English, and you're right about sci-fi shows doing that all the time. I just thought in that instance it might have been better to have some sort of explanation as to why everyone can suddenly speak a foreign language. It's not a big deal to me though.

Sure, there are lots of famous people in DC, but the thing that bothers me most is that... Rans knows each and everyone of them! Anyone noticed that? She must be a tabloids otaku....
Well, I found realistic the actor in chapters 102-103 "Historical Actor Murder Case", although [spoiler?] he was an insane murderer [end of spoiler?], he was not really different from the real actors.

In episode 307-308 The Dark Footprint, Mouri is hired to find this game disigner, I don't remember his name, but he was involved with the B.O, and he is shown a video email to see how he looks like and Kogorou says (maybe it was Ran) "I think I've seen him before, Isn't he the renowned (whatever his name was) Game disigner??"
Come on!! does really a game disigner get to be recognized at all in real life?? ^_^

That's definitely true. She loves the gossip magazines, apparently.

Blame that on the alcohol, the Yoko Okino stuff and Majong (sp?)
speaking of Yoko she needs to be in the series more
