I realize that it was the first episode/volume and all the characters and plotlines probably weren't fleshed out completely. But, it just seems to be so completely out of character for them to be like:

"Were going to collect our blackmail money in an hour. Let's pass the time by going on this rollercoaster."

After all the stuff they have done since then, it's kind of funny thinking about these BAMFs getting on a dinky amusement park ride.

They weren't riding it to pass time.  Vodka says when he meets up with the guy they blackmailed that they were using the rollercoaster to make sure that he was alone.  Remember, the roller coaster would have a very good aerial shot of the area.

True, that was the reasoning behind it.  However, LymphatusDjarno has a very good point.  I can't picture Gin saying "We need to make sure he's alone before we contact him.  Let's check it out by riding on the roller coaster!"  It's just not Gin.  I think he'd find a building to stand on, or send another agent by disguised as a park employee.  It does seem so out of character.

I completely disagree. I think it was an excellent idea(most likely thought up by Gin). They don't look so suspicious by just going on a roller coaster... asides from all the black clothes and the "eyes of a cold-blooded murderer"....

Thinking things so seriously does not work in Volume 1. At that time, Gosho only intended to make a goofy comedic manga.

In case 1 there're two other things you had to think about...

1. Why is there no blood on Gin and Vodka? They sat behind the victim after his head disapeared (I'm so bad in english I don't know another word.. sry) they had to be full of blood!
2. What did Gin while Shinichi saw Vodka? If he was the one who should look after someone who could interupt them he would have find Shinichi earlier! (Maybe he played a game in the ropicalland^^)

But do you really think they would go on a rollercoaster? I would go on a free fall^^
