Anime-Original Episodes You Like?

I don't really understand all the complaining about anime-original episodes. To me, it feels like for every bad anime-original episodes, there's a dull or annoying manga-based one.

Manga-based episodes get plenty of love as it is, so in this thread, anime-originals you liked.

To start:

175: The Man Who Was Killed Four Times
Embraces and exagerates the absurdity that is fairly often a part of this series and is very funny as a result. Also does a fairly complex case in a single epissode rather than two or even three.

225: The Secret of the High Sales
A good parody of the fact that the criminals in this series are usually hyper-rational and very intelligent. Also takes Shinichi's massive ego down a peg.

It's only the anime-originals that ever mess around the formula like that. That's reason enough to not to pre-judge them.

I can only really think of one at the moment, and that would be 196 (The Invisible Weapon; Ran's First Investigation). Good job of making the end really sad once you see the realization by the woman of the danger she was in. Sorry, don't really know how to phrase these things.

Cursed Masks was one of the best episodes. The demonstration of the murder was very chilling.

a lot of the older AOs (first 200 episodes) were either good, fun or both. Like that hiking case, or the Detective Boys in the mall, or the DB camping case that had a random Yusaku cameo, the one with that assassin that loses her memory etc. I also enjoyed Beika's Grenier, the most recent Kogoro 2 part AO, the Meiji Restoration AO around 518.

But my favorites are the Detective Boys Disaster Case, A Mysterious Sniper Murder Case, Scoop Picture Murder Case, The Truth of the Exploding Car Case, The Nocturne of Red Murderous Intent and A Cursed Mask Coldly Laughs.

Oh, snap. I forgot the exploding car one! That was great. And the mask one, too.

Definitely 225.
It's not only my favourite AO, but also my favourite case at all. Yes, I do like it more than even 345 and similar ones - although Desperate Revival is an obstacle...

225, 225, 225!!!! That's an awesome episode! I give it an alternate title: "The Abusing Conan Case"! It's just hilarious how much torture Conan went through, especially at the end! XDDD

Also, episode...34 I think? The one with mad Agasa at the beginning...and the DB go out on a treasure hunt and Conan is somehow enjoying it. He must have been hypnotised because he even did the little cheer! :o But it was so much fun~ Even if it was an AO, it just gives me warm fluffy feelings.

Gotta agree with this one, the case was just to simple for poor Conan.

33 actually, 34 is the first one of the case with the bandaged man in Suzuki's mountain villa.

So I guess I'm in the minority who didn't like 225? ...

Some of my favorite AO cases:

184: "A Cursed Mask Coldly Laughs". Probably one of the creepiest episodes, and one that was actually really well written for an AO. This one to me actually felt like it was a manga case, and I was very surprised when I learned it wasn't. This, as well as the other AO one hour special from the timeframe, 209's "The Entrance to the Maze" is another highly underrated story.

175: "The Man Who Was Killed Four Times". Probably one of the more fun cases in the show. I just love the absurdity of it.

88-89: "Dracula's Villa Murder Case". I especially loved how the guy dug his own grave by slipping up and saying he could hear what was going in when listening to sealed door. Another creepy case.

92-93: "The Fearful Traversing Murder Case". Very early in the show, there were some REALLY excellently written cases that were AO's. This one is definitely one of those. The motive was very obvious, but too obvious for you to put two and two together. And quite an interesting plot twist!

124-125: "A Mysterious Sniper Murder Case". Mostly nostalgic reasons for this one, as it was the first fansubbed case I ever watched.

161: "The Murder Floating in Ryusuitei". I love how the murder happened. So goofy that I can DEFINITELY imagine someone doing it in real life.

276: "Case of the Missing Policeman's Notebook". Love Takagi episodes, and this one is a classic. I love the shot of Takagi with his head down while 100 foot tall Megure-zilla is yelling at him and telling him that he's fired.

282-283: "The Mystery of the Water Flowing Stone Garden". I wish this one was available with better subs, than the crappy HK subs... it's a really fun case.

471: "The Out of Control Rental Car". I love Kogoro in this episode. He's just so calm and collected, even when he understands that he has to keep driving at that certain speed.

Pretty much anything after the 300's is very much hit or miss, and nothing truly outstanding, I think.

I have to strongly disagree. I can think of plenty AOs that I hated/thought were boring (probably around 30 or 40) while I can only think of 5 I thought were boring (383, Revolving Sushi case, Solitary Island of the Princess and the Dragon King's Palace, Shell Gathering and a Sigh, The Evil Spirit Appears on An Unlucky Day) and 2 that I hated (Blue Spark of Hatred, 490).

Ok... Really... I dislike almost all AOs... EXCEPT ONE IN PARTICULAR... Though the one I like is slightly cheating, and I am surprised no one has mentioned it yet... [though probably because people don't think its an AO]

EPISODE 128!!!! The Black Organization One Billion Yen Robbery Case!!!! By far the ABSOLUTE BEST AO EVER

Yes... IT IS an Anime Original. And it tied in 100x better than what the manga had done in its place... at least imo...

I liked that one, but one thing that bugged me, and this is pretty nitpicky of me, is how we're just introduced to "Masami Hirota" right away, and she's apparently a friend of Conan on a first name basis. It felt like it was written in a way where you'd think that she had appeared in episodes beforehand. That's just how it felt to me, personally.

See... That didn't bother me since... well... what is so strange about getting to know a teller at a bank? So that didn't bother me, in fact it felt more true to life, since we never saw Conan in a bank before, but it is logical that he has been there before [likely with Ran while she was cashing Kogoro's checks], and sat around doing nothing. During that downtime I'm sure he talked to "Masami Hirota," who was a nice teller, and in that time probably got to know each other to be on a first name basis with each other. But you are right, it is all dependent on how you see it personally, and that was my interpretation.
