hey guys,

ive got a question, its bugging me for some time now and i want you to explain it to me:

in the flashback of ep500 ethan gives kir a "truth serum" just before he kills himself.

what is it with this serum? does the cia really have truth serum for their enemies?
ethan gives kir just a bit of it, i think he fears kir would tell the bo about her as as cia if he gave her the full load.

please explain :-)

thank you

lukim

I haven't saw ep500, but... Yeah sure, this thing exists.

And not only CIA, but KGB and such.
It's not really reliable. It says here that "serum" is increasing talking, not Truth-telling.
It's veeery popular in pop Culture.
For example - True Lies. Or - Gosh - Harry Potter!

And that's quote for Wikipedia =)

In one of russian books written by Boris Akunin, truth serum's called "Cola-S".
Drug shift brain in overload, make person talk. However in such state he can't lie. And it exhaust brain very severly, reduce interogation time to 15-25min.

That'll do?

the most popular drug for truth serum (at least in most fiction) is Sodium Pentothal -- the idea is that lying is harder then telling the truth, and the drug is supposed to reduce higher cortical brain functions so that it would be harder to lie -- but of course its a drug so its success in real interrogations is probably both dubious and obviously secret
