Do you guys think that opening and ending songs that are chosen for animes help to boost that artist or group's popularity and record sales?

Of course, they're always complement with each other.. Especially when they fill the OP/ED song of a Famous anime  ;)

Yeah, most likely. Especially if the anime is viewed by 8% of the whole population. It is a big number in Japan.

Really ? 8% ?

Seems small to me, shouldn't it be around 10-15% ?

From episode 501 there were only two episodes over 10% rating. Too bad. :(

Yes, you're right..

Japanese Ops and EDs are important..
Without it, Animes are pale and has no life..

Imagine DC without it's OPs and EDs, (even though DC alone will satisfy me) ;D ;D..

Gyaku desu >_<
He's asking if the artists singing for anime OPs and EDs get popularity boosts. And obviously, the answer is a yes. A tip is to sing for overrated animes, that's popularity plus for sure x_O

I never had though on it, but in fact, anime is important to japanese music. But i think the artits must be cautious, cause with anime you get a speciphic public, so watch out...

And even in Japan, must exist people who doesn't like anime, so these groups whose sang anime themes will not be tolerate by these kind of people, that's why the artists must be alert.

Ah! I got your point and i just want to make mine, of course anime helps music, but i think the music can survive by itself and vice-versa, so they are working together but it's not really necessary, whatever, if it's going well keep that way, i have nothin to complain about

It helps to give some of these artists/groups some exposure.  Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

My main source of japanese music is through anime openings, so yes I would say it's important..at least to foreigners, because we aren't as hip and knowledgeable about the Japanese music industry.

Here is what I think and have noticed...

Is anime important to Japanese music? Of course not! Without anime Japanese music will still thrive. Artists will find other venues to spread their music. American, and European artists seem to have no problem doing so...

Does anime help? Of course, any popular medium playing music will add to popularity. This includes radio, PVs [Which Japan still does UNLIKE AMERICA ><], anime openings/closings, drama openings/closings, movie openings/closings, and commercials. Those are just a few. This is not to mention Mixi [like myspace for japan without the fail]. For new bands playing live houses also gets the name out.

Really... I think people are naive if you think one outlet for music has any significant impact on music. i.e. you don't watch anime, but listen to the radio and hear a song. Just because you find out that the song you heard on the radio is featured in an anime will have no impact on you. Even if you hate said anime, because if its a good song... who the hell cares? Or a PV you see on TV... it doesn't matter how its heard as long as its heard....

PS: I am INSANELY JEALOUS OF JAPAN'S MTV... SINCE THEY ACTUALLY PLAY MUSIC! I always wonder... why we have like 3 stations called "music television" that don't play any music what so ever, but instead bad reality TV.
