Do you enjoy mysteries in general, or only DC?

Post by Detective Girl »

I saw few people who hate reading Sherlock Holmes or Christie novels
when they like DC.
do you like those mystery kind of movies or books in general,
or do you only like DC?

By the way, I do enjoy lot of those.
I watch Kindaichi, which the character of it is lot stupider than Conan
(trust me, he lets 5 people die in one case, and always let the murderer die, and he doesn't know how to spell 'key')
and detective school Q, which was done by same creator as Kindaichi.
But, Kindaichi, is almost like a 'teacher' of DC, which GOsho sama did get the idea
from Kindaichi.
It might seem harder and slow paced than DC, but it is a very good Anime to watch
if you are interested in mystery stories.

I've read all of My lovely Shelling Ford(Holmes, it is), and read all of Christies and
most of Edogawa Lanpo books.

I've just love mystery books and murders <<< -ã…‚-;

I love love love mysteries! It's pretty much all I read now... I read all Holmes, several Patterson, reading any Christie books I can get my hands on... Any suggestions are appreciated...

Anything to do with mysteries, puzzles, and the like I enjoy. I like figuring things out... Most books lead you on a journey, only with mystery can you become a part of that journey and think things through with the character, whether it is using their train of thought, or your own deductive prowess.

I'm currently reading Agatha Christie Masterpieces in Miniature, and playing Sherlock Holmes vs Arsene Lupin [yes playing, not reading, have not gotten my hands on a copy of that book yet]

I love mystery novels they're the only novels that I can read in English without dying right now xD.  I prefere ones that are humourous and not too serious.  Though if they are serious I don't mind at all.  Just give me good story and it's all good.

I finished Doyle and Christie's collection along with John Dickson Carr, Rex Stout and Edgar Allen Poe.

Lately I've been reading Sue Graffon, Miyuki Miyabe, William E. Brittai, Damon Runyon, Chester Himes, Ellery Queen and Soji Shimada.

I haven't watched any other mystery animes really, but I love watching shows like Law and Order and CSI. I haven't read any Sherlock Holmes (closest thing I've read was like The Hardy Boys when I was little XD)

Mystery is the on genre of anything that can easily suck me in ^_^

As long as it's good... if it's good like Sherlock Holmes, I don't mind reading gigantic books, if it was badly written, I won't get past page 10.

I haven't read many adult mystery books, mostly just the "Cat Who" series (until the more recent books where the cases got lame). I've read a lot more children's mysteries. Nate the Great, Encyclopedia Brown, Cam Jansen, The Boxcar Children, Clue Jr. (I remember swapping off reading one of those aloud in the car and laughing at my oldest little brother for reading "Georgio" when the character's name was "Gregory"--granted he was only in about 1st grade at the time, but we knew at least one "Gregory") I'm sure there were probably more stories like that that I read as a kid. I haven't picked up an Agatha Christie novel, though, and I haven't read most of Sherlock Holmes, but I know the basics of at least a few of those stories. Mostly from watching/reading similar stories.
TV: I loved Ghostwriter back in about junior high when it first came out. Wishbone would occasionally do mysteries, too (Holmes at least a couple times that I can recall). In high school (or maybe a little before?) I discovered The Father Dowling Mysteries and Diagnosis Murder. I remember Mom used to watch Murder She Wrote, but somehow I never really got into it. I've seen a couple episodes of House, but that's more of medical mysteries than murder mysteries. I like murders better, and Doc Sloane (played by Dick Van Dyke) is cooler than House. I prefer more affable detectives. I have not seen much TV in recent years, because my husband and I don't tend to watch TV at all, so we haven't got an antenna hooked up, much less cable.
Anime/Manga: Conan, of course. I tried to watch a little of Matantei Loki, but it's just not as interesting. I like Kindaichi Case Files, though that tends a little more toward horror--I prefer to read the manga. I've been working my way through "Great Detectives Poirot and Marple" and that one is a lot of fun. I also loved Detective Acadamy Q.
Video Games: Phoenix Wright--played through all of the first 2 games and most of the third, haven't gotten around to picking up Apollo Justice. Professor Layton--a mystery game with lots of puzzles to play! Finished the first game, reserved the second, waiting for it to come out. Trace Memory--mystery story visual novel with a "let's show off what the DS can do!" game mechanic. A little odd, but decent enough. Time Hollow--mystery story visual novel where you get to mess with time. Ever 17--visual novel with a really confusing mystery. You have to get 4 endings before you can unlock the true ending and find out what ACTUALLY happened. Fun, but long and REALLY confusing. Persona 4--to a lesser extent practically any Megaten game, but P4 especially. You even have your cute detectives (Naoto!!) and your police officers (your uncle, Dojima, and his idiot/clumsy assistant Adachi). Every time the Fool arcana leveled up, I found myself yelling "Shonen tantei-dan, shuupatsu!" because they really remind me of the kids in Conan. I'm on my second playthrough now, with my main character renamed "Kudo Shinichi" because I think it's hillarious.

Overall, I guess my answer is that I love mysteries. I just like my mysteries to come with a (cute) detective to solve them. *^_^* I'm not very good at actual real-life detective work.
I have finally started to actually publish my story! For the moment, expect a new chapter each month.

The Case of the Midnight Channel
"When a strange letter summons the Mouri family to Inaba, Ran is expecting a case. She's not expecting it to involve the TV, though.
If Naoto investigated everyone who came to visit Inaba, she'd have little time for real cases. When Yukiko reports that the Midnight Channel is back, however, she starts to wonder if the visitors are connected. Especially when the image clears, unveiling yet another mystery."

Short version: I'm taking various DC/MK characters to Inaba (where Persona 4 takes place) and dropping them through the TV to face their Shadows!

I really liked mystery even before DC. I'm nota  big fan of Agatha Christie or conan Doyle, but of course I've read some works from them.
My favourite mystery was and maybe still is the Columbo series. Even after watching it for a 100 times it is still not boring (thanks to my not so bright memory XD; ).

I'm basicly fond of riddles, but I find today's TV series CSI, NCYS and such way too complicated and boring. House M.D. is the closest to what I like about mysteries among today's dramas. Though i have to admit, that now and thenm i watch some mystery series, but only a few episodes of them, just to kill time.

DC spoils me in many ways, it gives mystery in general and in the main plot, it has drama, comedy and some action in it. And more importantly it gives the readers/viewers a chance to find out who the culprit is or how the trick has been done. is thsi what people call classics I wonder?

I've just started watching house (when my friend showed me how to get subtitles lol) and I'm almost done the first season.  My friends tell me that the other seasons aren't as good...-shrug-

It's really funny xD, I find it very entertaining.

I've always liked both.  I like mystery fiction, a lot of true crime with studies on killers, and sleuth-type characters in comics.  I consider this series sort of my gateway to all of that though.  The characters have kept me very interested for the past five years; I go back and read old stuff, too.

I dunno, your friends must be crazy then. Maybe they're just very sensitive to changes in the show? Because tbh, it's still completely awesome in the 5th season.

And to answer the topic, DC's pretty much the only thing I watch. I mean, you could say I watch House too, but I classify that as more drama than mystery, because there's absolutely no way you'll ever find out what the solution is. House is more just about watching House be himself and boss around his subordinates.

While DC got me interested in mystery, I've also read many Agatha Christie books and sometimes Conan Doyle as well.
I've read others too but those are the ones I read and enjoy the most.

*ahem* Mystery in general, I guess. I loved Holmes right from a Study in Scarlet. <3
No amount of apologies will express how much I regret it.
