As the release thread is already locked, I have to post here.  ;D
Spoiler:
So we ended with a still of Kogoro holding the villain's arm. Does that imply Kogoro did not succeed in saving the villain? If yes, this is a  clear violation of 16:3, or Ep 82, which is canon.

How did you draw that conclusion?  The sheer fact that he is holding onto the culprit proves he saved him.

Why don't they just try to show Kogoro pulling him on shore? It's not like they can't cut a few seconds here and there.

They shouldn't need to, it's implied in every possible way imaginable.

Have to agree with Gin on this one, no need to show it. You want to know what those few seconds where used for?
To show us that the culprit had a 10sec head start on Mouri, Conan kicking the ball from a side angle that suddenly turned into an upwards angle, & Mouri who was 10secs behind actually catching the culprit by the arm.

Well, never hurts to speculate ;)
But the most logical conclusion is Mouri saved the culprit (hence Conan and Ran smiling at the left), handed the culprit to the police, and proceeded to "remove his sign", laughing gaily.
Case closed, detective

As I said while talking to GinRei about this case before 541 aired, there was only one solution to the case (though this is a bit off-topic at the moment). That solution is the one presented in 541, of course.

The thing was--there was no way to do it other than to show that Mouri had been used. Otherwise, he would have been of undeniable blame for the case. It's unfortunate how predictable it was but it was a fun excursion nonetheless.

That said, the plot point that involved...
Spoiler:
...the guy using a disguise as Gamou was absolutely insane. To me, it's not fair to avoid even fairly hinting at something that in the first part. I had no clue until I was working on that part and when I saw them really make a point of his "performance" background, I was just thinking, "They are NOT going to do that... Well, #$*!, they just did."
(Btw, fixed that double post, HADAA)

(This is technically 540, but I would post here.)

Actually Mouri being able to listen to every word that (fake) Gamou said in the Fugu restaurant while drunk is very amusing.
