Not sure if anyone here has heard of this recently, but VIZ Media will be launching a Shonen Sunday Imprint. The
website will be launched on July 22nd with possibly revealing a magazine at the San Diego Comicon later in the month.
So it seems like DC will get some more lovin'.

It's definitely a bit of interesting news and it at least gives a bit of cross-ocean brand synergy.

This announcement seems relevant to my interests. This might give Viz the opportunity to release more titles. *crosses fingers for a Urusei Yatsura re-release even though it's completely a lost cause* :<

Thank goodness we get Case Closed. I wonder if they're actually going to publish Case Closed from the very beginning... and if they're going to run it for the next decade.

I highly doubt from the begining since then many people who buy the volumes will not want to buy it for chapters they already own

It's imprint, folks. Viz is not likely to issue Shonen Sunday in the US, but would make a series of manga Shonen Sunday. As DC is concerned, it doesn't cost Viz much to update the cover a bit when they reprint.

According to what ANN stated, the website shows some pictures of other manga series that aren't even published by VIZ yet, so we'll have to see when San Diego Comicon comes around.

That's true, this would give other manga series that are in the Shonen Sunday brand a chance to shine and a better opportunity over here.

I don't think that they'll jump to the current file than the one in Japan. I think that they'll release the ones that they just translated before releasing the volume, if it goes that way. But still, this will be good for DC if VIZ announces a possible Shonen Sunday Magazine, besides the Imprints deal.

Kind of like I mentioned in my last response, Viz might do that kind of format, releasing files before releasing a volume. But we'll see.

If they decide to imprint more of Shonen Sunday's mangas which is pretty much the case, there could still be a chance of them releasing a magazine, like they did with Shonen Jump.

^this. It's pretty much just going to be a new logo on the side of the manga. Hence, instead of the V they currently display, it'll have a Shonen Sunday Imprint on it. This does seem to give VIZ a chance to release more manga from other SS authors.

It's already being published and will continue in the normal way, most likely with only a new logo on the side.
Although you never know what VIZ may end up doing with this new imprint in the future. Maybe they'll translate more series similar to how they're doing it with Rin-ne on the internet.

A new imprint... yay. That'll be three imprints on Conan for my collection. Fun.
Anyway, as for whether they'd start at the beginning, the current (english) chapters, or the current (japanese) chapters, it's hard to say. They started Shonen Jump off at the beginning, but then at some point I believe they jumped forward for either Naruto or One Piece (forget which, if not both... possibly neither since I cancelled my SJ subscription two years in when they upped the price).
If they start at the beginning, they'd never finish Conan. It would take more than half a century just to catch up to where Japan is now, let alone finish it. That won't happen.
If they start where the english chapters are, they'll be behind the volumes after the initial release.
If they start where the japanese chapters are, they'll fall behind after the first release as well. In addition, they'd be skipping HUGE amounts of the story. More than half, in fact (34-35 volumes worth). This option is not going to happen, period.

I take back my previous statement after remembering Inuyasha was in Shonen Sunday. It also helps that Jump has Reborn!
I'm glad that some of these Shonen Sunday series that I've been wanting to read will be in America.

Well, the Shonen Sunday website has officially launched, and from what I see so far, Detective Conan isn't even present on the website; however, VIZ mentioned in their first news post on the site that they'll be adding more series from the magazine into the project. So the only thing to worry about now is
WHEN they'll be adding DC into the new project.
