conan redub by funimation
funimation mentioned at AX that there is a strong option of conan redub featuring original Japanese names

I suppose that would be a little better. They might also consider making Hattori live in Osaka and not Alberta.

Would also be great if they didn't cut out scenes.

Would be even more great if they settled with just a sub-tittle, and leave out the dubbing

Re: conan redub by funimation
I find it hard to believe that Case Closed has ever made Funimation a dime in the first place. Which is a shame.

Damn straight. But hey, if this works out, they could try to score a TV spot again (and do it the right way, instead of moving it to the deathslot with Lupin).kkslider5552000 wrote: I find it hard to believe that Case Closed has ever made Funimation a dime in the first place. Which is a shame.
Not gonna say I'm optimistic, but it's cool that they're even considering this. Maybe they decided to watch some fansubs and realized how much their new names and mediocre VAs didn't fit the characters after the slightest bit of story progression.

Re: conan redub by funimation
Not going to happen. That rep obviously didn't know what he was talking about. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but the fact that he states the names were changed because of it being broadcast is bullshit.
It was only ever on adult swim. The same broadcasting block that kept the original names of characters in other shows such as Bleach, Blood+, Code Geass, Death Note, FLCL, Inuyasha, Lupin the Third, YuYu Hakusho, as well as others which likely kept their character names but I haven't seen to confirm such as Blue Gender, Eureka Seven, Evangelion, etc.
It doesn't sell well enough to warrant redubbing for unreleased sets where they actually could change names, as well as fix errors that occur because of japanese/english angles, so why would they redub just for names? From volume 19 (I think that's the one where Kazuha is introduced) and onwards in the manga, names stopped being changed unless they already had been. Despite this, Funimation still changed her name and everyone else's name in that episode.

I think the situation is, rather, Funi was paid by Shogakukan to do so. Saying this at such an occasion imply it's somehow profitable to do this.

Re: conan redub by funimation
Well, FUNi has been on a bit of a bender lately with Conan. By releasing boxset after boxset, it's obvious they're trying to do what they did with Lupin a few years ago--get as much money from it as possible while there's any sort of brand recognition left and then never touch it again.
Re-dubbing it would do absolutely nothing at this stage, as sad as that may be. Why? Because they've already bundled up all of these episodes and, in the case of season one, multiple times now.
The only plausible path for FUNi to take is this: Proceed to do the movies and if there is any sort of hope for the series, reviews and sales for the movies may reignite interest. As anyone here should know, the movies for Conan actually are very good and are almost entirely stand-alone features. For long-term fans such as most of us that post here, we generally like the first two movies, but when it comes to establishing good, solid mystery narratives... 3-6 are really, really good. Not even just good in an anime mystery sense--they are genuine, engaging mysteries. Even 7-9 are fair enough and, while I despise 10 and especially 11 (:P), I think they do have their place and would be suitable enough for a release.
The most important part of marketing a product is to maintain your brand. Even if they went back and re-dubbed every line for episodes 1-130 that contained an English name, it just wouldn't be plausible to change the brand at this stage.
Tl;dr version: Movies or nothing.

Re: conan redub by funimation
Not that I disagree that the rep's claims are absurd, but FUNi had the first Osaka case scripted long before volume 19 came out. "Harley's" VA posted on the Adult Swim forums about working on that episode way back in 2004. Ask Knightus, he probably remembers.GinRei wrote: Not going to happen. Re: conan redub by funimation
Oh, I know. That's what I'm saying, though. They just released it, yet didn't redub it in any way, when they easily could have. Considering volume 19 came out almost two years, that's more than enough time to redub if they had any intention at all of doing so.Nyarl wrote: Not that I disagree that the rep's claims are absurd, but FUNi had the first Osaka case scripted long before volume 19 came out. they did dub the episodes a long time ago. and ginrei funi might have been trying to get on CBS for example and I could see then requiring name changesNyarl wrote:Not that I disagree that the rep's claims are absurd, but FUNi had the first Osaka case scripted long before volume 19 came out. I am not sure if I do believe this, however I think if this is happening I think it is with the conan "kai type" episodes.
PS funimation says they never got the epilogue for the case. I do not believe that but at least we have movie 3 coming by christmas
