hi!

may i request for the list of the important episodes before the character development story arc? and can you categorize them like the story arcs? its not necessary to give each story arc a title.. i just wanted them categorized. :)

thanks!

That would be interesting, there's not a lot happening in the episodes prior to the Character Development arc. I guess you could call the manga-based episodes "important". They were kind of Character Development episodes if you ask me... they just happen to not be directly intertwined with the Black Organization side of DC.

Really important: 1, 2, 48-50, 54, 96, 128-131, 176-178, 188-195
Somewhat important: 3-7, 10, 57-58, 68-70, 100, 101, 118, 162, 170, 171, 174

DC really has the most vague anime arcs ever btw.

I have been working on a speed episode guide for people (like my parents) who are scared of a 530 and counting episode series

@ yukiona: thanks yukiona! but i guess there are many manga based episodes.. it's hard to track what are releted to the story arcs formulated by DCTP.

@ kkslider5552000: thanks also! actually i referred to miyano-sama's page (http://www.geocities.com/miyanosama/Plo ... mary01.htm). i haven't watched all of the old episodes so i'm trying to download episodes that are related to the story arcs, the appearance of kaitou kid, hattori heiji and the metropolitan police detective love stories. i just wanted to ask why have you included episodes  100-101 and 194-195? thanks in advanced!

@ tantei okuoku: really? i am also working on that! that's why i'm asking about the important episodes before that character development arc... so can you share the episode guide that you have formulated? this is what i have made as of now (also based in miyano-sama's page)...

Arc A: Introduction
1 - shinichi becomes conan
2 - conan moves to ran's place
5 - discovery of code names of BO
43 - yukiko and yusaku knows conan
48 - heiji's appearance
49 - conan discovers the alcohol
50 - the alcohol works only when he has fever
54 - tequila dies
57-58 - heiji discovers conan
96- Ran becomes suspicious
118 - kazuha's appearance

Arc B: BO Encounter
118 - miyano akemi
129 - haibara ai
162 - shinichi's first case
170-171 - Dr. Araide
176-178 - haibara becomes sherry, vermouth's appearance

Arc C: Ran and Shinichi***
188-193 - Desperate Revival

if you want to add or remove something guys, please do so.

*** I don't know if i should really put 188-193 in the arc because it has nothing to do with the black organization. but in my analysis, in the artificial veneer arc, episodes 521-523 is not about okiya subaru.. it is more on shinichi and ran. and what about episodes 398-400? where in ran becomes suspicious to conan? do you think it has another significance?

thanks in advanced!!!

i dont think that the ShinxRan scenes are important for the BO story xD
But the 345. episode is REALLY important and the eisuke-kir scenes with the fbi.. Oh and the episode where we see shinxrans as childs because of toichi-vermouth-yukiko and kaito kids past..

....

Vermouth and Jodie were both at the play. Vermouth as Araide and Jodie as the off scene "foreign English teacher with big breasts" who we later see took pictures of people there.

As for the "arcs", I wouldn't group episodes apart from the mystery stories themselves. Or, perhaps, I'd use very broad categories for the stories between the "big reveal" milestones (Kir being revealed as Eisuke's real sister; the boss's number being reveled to be based on the Nanatsu no Ko melody; the revelations about Vermouth and the FBI; Ran being reveled to be playing along while suspicious of Conan {ETA: in 188-193}).

Cherry picking only the episodes which drop hints about or develop continuity leading into those big reveals would be a mistake, though. Where would you fit the episodes that have a random hint about the B.O in general tossed into the "filler"? Like the Shiho's apparent interest in the Mermaid immortality legend? The continuity just isn't developed that coherently to fit into story arcs, and until the series ends there's a chance some development will shed new light on events from some so-called "filler" story.

@ nyarl: thanks! i haven't watched the desperate rival... i'm still in the process of downloading. so it means that episodes 188-193 is really significant in the plot.

i guess all the episodes where conan transforms to shinichi were important (obviously).

In the anime Conan does not find out about the code names in episode 5, he just does in the manga chapters episode 5 is based on. It was changed for some reason.

In episode 50 Conan realizes that the alcohol not only has a temporary effect but also the immune system prevents it from transformation after the first usage.
After just watching 50 your idea actually is a valid conjecture but since 176 - 178 we know for sure that this is wrong.

I'm not really sure about that, either the anime makes him know from episode 1 or he just knows without finding out ever.

The anime made some other changes which I don't understand...

in episode (I think) 56 dub count says the names of the BO members (in the sub it's a plot hole), in the english funimation dub, Harley (sorry) tell shinji that gin and vodka are interested in him, I think you are cutting to much of the show out. I am trying to cut out only the episodes that do not progress the story or have a new gadget/ character, or have a really strong mystery. also I have different levels of you should watch this. for example you really need to watch the phantom theif episodes that you cut on your list, you just have to.

54 is the first time they were mentioned in the anime

I know because I was wondering "wait, how the hell does he know their names?!" when I first saw it.
