So I'm thinking about building up a manga collection of Detective Conan. I know for there are some name changes for the Viz manga but how extensive are they? Do they still do name change for new characters?

They do some name changes still, but far less often than at the beginning of the series. Victims and culprits usually aren't changed anymore, but I think some of the series regulars are still being changed.

No new name changes. Only established characters, and not even all of them (for example, Takagi's and Nakamori's names were restored).

Also Hakuba's name remains the same. And I think Sato does as well. All minor characters keep their names, but yeah, the rest of the major characters from the start of the series still have the name changes.

They've also restored Gin's and Vodka's names as well. After a while, they stopped changing the names of the reoccurring characters.

The Gin and Vodka change only happened with the first translator, the second translator had to add an explanation to revert the names (equivalent of 176-178).
