You guys know what being insulted means?

Having the same deduction as Mouri's. It's especially bad when he pulls one of his goofy stunts right after the punch.
e.g.
Makes you feel like you REALLY went the stupid route this time!
Seriously, why do they do that? Why not make Kogoro an average detective, like the rest of the police force? Or even below-average, or above, but just can't get that final touch. Just don't make him so bad at deducting, that viewers will
feel bad if they chose the same culprit.
Wouldn't it be cool if Mouri was just an average detective, trying to get by, instead of being the miserable person he appears to be? Do you guys know any cases where he single-highhandedly solved a case on his own? Without any help from Conan?

I have always assumed he was an average or even decent detective he just tends to be lazy and willing to run with his first thought instead thinking it through at all. >_>
That's why when the case is more important to him he tends to do noticibly better instead of half assing it like normal.
>_>

I don't remember any cases where Kogoro solved the case on his own, but I found 305-306 particularly memorable because he got the motive right when Conan didn't.

Oh come oooon, have you seen some of the earlier cases? I'm rewatching DC all over again, and some of the cases had Mouri just flat out looking at the sky for answers hahahaha.
Besides, top to that his odd decision to open up a detective firm if he just wants to laze around all day and do his job half-assed. You'd think someone who opens a business to feed his family would take it more seriously, so there's not a whole lot of sense in him being purposefully foolish.

Just watch the first two minutes of this. xD

I remembe Kogorou was right and was capable of finding the culprit when the cases were related to his friends. In total I think he solved like 3 cases. He also (though with serious help) solved the case in which the cat was helping him.
I also think that Kogorou is rather talented detective if only he wanted to think a wee bit about the case. But all he wants to do is to close the case as soon as possible and go watching Yoko or drink beer.

I think Kogoro is well and capable detective if he just were to actually think and be patient. Eri leaving hit him hard and made him what he is now... I think if he still were to work with Megure, he'd actually be doing quite well... At least he'd have regular working hours(less time to space out and drink beer) and solid income(seriously, it feels like they are constantly in debt...). Though then there wouldn't be that much point in the series.

Kogoro is pretty much an average detective, Heiji and Conan just seem to not let him speak when he wants to give an answer. In episode 174 Kogoro knew why the burnt corpse was like that but they just didn't let him speak.
He's not that much worse than Sera, he just doesn't care about playing around with cases. $>Excitement of solving a case (opposite of the teen detectives). Although I think in one case he showed his detective pride but I can't remember what was that again..

He certainly gives a better effort when the case is important to him. He is smarter than what you see of him in 90% of the series.

Sadly enough. Without Kogoro being the way he is, this series would have a hard time going. He's dumb but not dumb. Somewhere in him is a good detective. Somewhere.... Oh... Jeeze.... I feel stupid even trying to say that!
In any case! If he didn't act like a bad detective, what would Shinichi be doing while he deduces stuff??? Shinichi is getting tons of experience BECAUSE Kogoro is the way he is. Therefore, we need a somewhat dumb Kogoro.
Besides, it's not very obvious, but I think Kogoro does realize how smart Conan is. I don't know why, but I almost have this feeling he knows Conan has a huge secret but is acting towards him the way he does to cover it up. Haven't you noticed how he will sometimes just completely listen to whatever Conan sais???????

Kogoro (and the reader) often don't have a key part to solve the mystery. That's why Kogoro (and the reader if you didn't figure out the key part) can get the wrong deduction. That's not being stupid, that's making Conan and co. purposefully look smarter than they are.

Though he does not have the key part, that does not mean he cannot find a key part. He doesn't search in the correct places. Detectives need to FIND clues in order to solve mysteries. A lot of times, he looks in all the wrong places. That's not Conan's fault.

Personally I find that Mouri being clueless at times is used as a plot point to help Conan solve the case.
I mean, it's mostly used for comedic relief. But sometimes Mouri will get his reasoning wrong, and actually end up aiding Conan in the case.

True. Very true. Sometimes mistakes can lead up to the correct answer. Like with computer science: the more mistakes made beforehand, the more you know about the code.

I do remember this one case really early on (before episode 100) where Conan was about to shoot Kogorou with the sleep darts, but stopped to let Kogorou have the satisfaction of solving this case involving a group of meeting with his friends. Kogorou even said a cool quote, usually around the time in the "detective show" that Conan says this line that makes the culprit cry in guilt/shame/other feelies.
