I don't want to see Conan fail a case, that would be unrealistic after how he has been protrayed as deduction god for almost 1000 files. However what I want to see is someone beating him to the punch in solving cases, sure Conan get the case correct but someone deduced it faster than him.

I'd like to see him all confident after explaining his deduction then getting one of the smallest yet crucial details needed to nail the case like what happened at the end of 306.

This. But I don't want that person to be Yusaku nor any already known character. I want someone fresh without any connections to the big families. I want someone who didn't turn his very life to a bandits hunting game, but just casually says here and there "XXX killed the man, because he felt guilty" or "YYY was't killed here, but just moved here", and that random BSs will turn out to be the truth.
(Pretty much like the red coins case in which Megure came to the murder place and said that it was a robbery).

He can fail in a case with an APTX murder...But it seem like the BO doesn't want to use it again...

My knowledge isn't very good since it's been a long time I caught up to DC so can you tell me which case was it?

Pretty much every one in which Yusaku is seen. For example the ski one in which Shinichi was fighting against Heiji before they knew each other.

Just to clarify I meant someone other than Yusaku, bonus point if the one who beat Conan to the punch is not a detective himself.

I was thinking about the Ayumi Kidnapping Case though
Also Akai/Subaru has several times solved cases faster than Conan, which is normal since Shinichi is after all a high schooler while Akai is an FBI agent and is thus more experienced

As far as I can recall the only instance when Subaru explicitly outsmarted Conan is during the Kudo Yusaku's cold case, interestingly in that instance Subaru was right-handed(while brushing his teeth as always)

Not really, but more cases like the 2 cases in episode 263 would be that greatness. The first was solved by Heiji and the second was Conan and Heiji being used to get to one of the culprits.

I think it would be interesting if Conan failed to prove the murderer is guilty and the murderer escaped and then returned in another plot.
By the way, I would also be interested in cases where Conan does actually have to PROVE the murderer is guilty and the culprit doesn't confess and acts instead like "I won't talk without my lawyer", without falling into the "psychological pressure" trap. That would be more realistic, imo.

The possibility of it is quite low, I think, given the winning streak of invincible Conan/Shinichi lol. Which I don't mind, really, for the series. Gosho wants to focus more on the mysteries and deduction instead. Besides, Conan always finds a way to tie the culprit exclusively to the murder, evidence given by him is usually consistent and conclusive. Given the facts, the culprit is likely to accept a guilty plea deal instead of going on trial in front of a jury.
I don't know much about Japanese court system though. Though if we take anime episodes of Kisaki Eri vs. Kujo Reiko into consideration, I'd say it's rather different from the U.S. counterpart, at least. So perhaps the perception is a little bit something else over there.

Another idea: what if the judge took a bribe and let a murderer go? Especially if it wasn't the "revenge" kind of murderer who doesn't kill anymore after the revenge is complete, but somebody who continues to be dangerous for society, so Conan has to watch his back or be careful the murderer doesn't kill again. Maybe this would be too complicated, but still...
