Anyone else think some characters should die soon/ in the ending?
If I recall correctly, not a single main character has ever died in this show.
It's getting a little ridiculous, blowing up trains and shooting at each other but no ones dying.
Even if it's a lesser character, I think someone needs to die during the next crow corps encounter.

Normally I'd point out that killing off a character is more often than not a complete waste if there's something good that can still be done while he/she is still alive.
...but I do agree it's a bit ridiculous. Earn that happy ending god dammit!

The way the author does his things would get bit tiresome, it's much better now that we can get cases with DB and Amuro and Sera and Subaru and so on instead of just DB
current case Kid, Sera and the usuals... and Seras mystery stuffed there too.

Re: Anyone else think some characters should die soon/ in the ending?
...No, not really. If this was a series that was all about life-and-death missions and multiple exhilarating, violent conflicts between massive clashing forces where major character death was common, maybe.
But it's not.
The fight against the BO is great and I love it to death, but its only a small part of the overall story. And yes, I do not consider the BO story to be the only 'real' plot of DC.
Besides, Gosho has already made the very smart move of having all the important characters with an actual stake in the BO conflict have some kind of tragedy in their lives linked to it.
Shinichi has had his whole life upended by them and has had to go through plenty of suffering due to it.
Shiho never got a proper childhood, raised among some terrible human beings, spent life as an orphan, and to boot had her only remaining family, her sister, killed by the very organization she's spent her entire life working for.
Akai had to commit crimes to work in the Organization as an undercover agent, broke off his relationship with Jodie due to it, and then lost the love of his life, Akemi, to the Organization, one which he has so far failed to take down. More so, he had to let go if his identity as Akai and fake his death in order to survive.
Jodie's father was killed by Vermouth when she was a little girl, she had to spend the rest of her life under the Witness Protection Program, and has so far failed to avenge her father. More so, she's had to suffer through the pain of thinking that she had lost her former lover Akai, and to the Organization that had also killed her father as well.
Kir had to forgo a normal life and work as a secret agent in the Organization, and had the frankly terrifying experience of seeing her dad kill himself in front of her for the sake of his mission. To make it worse, she had to claim that SHE was the one who killed her dad.
So yeah, these characters had already gone through plenty of suffering throughout their lives. All that being said, I do think that a few people might die in the finale of the series, namely Vermouth, Gin, and Anokata. And possibly Amuro.

He's already kinda dead in terms of presence (at least in the manga).irishock wrote:Kogoro should die.

Exactly. The character has been useless for over a decade now. Killing him off would give it some bottom.

That sounds horrible. He should give Kogoro more moments instead rather than do something random like that.

They should kill off Conan. That would be an epic twist. Nobody would see it coming.

Re: Anyone else think some characters should die soon/ in the ending?
Killing off a character could be both a good choice or a bad choice. It really depends on the situation and who it is that's being killed off.
For instance, Akai actually dying probably would have been a really good move. It really would have left a substantial blow - and an effective one at that. We were given enough time with Akai to grow to like him and his smarts were definitely displayed well. When Akai "died" I remember that I actually teared up. It was a pretty powerful moment, especially with the reactions (geeeeez, Jodie's!). Him being killed also would have served to not only up the ante of the threat of the Organization, but to add suspense.
Akai was the other Silver Bullet. He was killed. What does that mean for Conan, another Silver Bullet who's younger and less experienced?
I like the mystery around Akai's "death" - though of course it's been a little long at this point, ahaha - but it also feels a bit like a cop-out. I mean, off the top of my head, the only character that the BO killed that we, as the audience, was able to connect with was Akemi (I'm probably wrong on this point, but this is straight from my noggin - there could also be the point made that Akemi's is the only front-up death that made enough of an impact on me that I still remember it without reference). The BO can kill any number of minor characters, but without at least a couple of main character kills they don't give quite as much of a threatening presence.
I'm not saying they have to kill a bunch of people in the main cast, but Akai would have been a wonderful victim not only for the reasons listed above, but also because it would have been one more main character death since Akemi's. His backstory also gave information on Akemi, so having him die as well could have been a sort of "together in death" thing.
Anyway, Akai dying for 100% sure would have been a nice shock after waiting so long after Akemi's (there have been other shocks, obviously, but this one would have been a huge one). Honestly, if Akai really did die, it probably would have been enough to not have anyone else die and still have fairly good tension until the ending.
As is, though, yeah - I think that someone should possibly kick the can. Don't ask me who, though, I haven't a clue

Re: Anyone else think some characters should die soon/ in the ending?
I thought it was time for at least somebody else to die soon. But I seriously hadn't expected Akai to be killed.
Though if Akai is really dead, I'll be extremely miserable.
Right now though it doesn't seem that there a lot of "I'm going to die soon" potential main characters. But then again the author will try to surprise us again. I just hope it isn't a really well-liked character.
It'd make everything better for another person to die though since it'll make DC... I don't know... better.

Re: Anyone else think some characters should die soon/ in the ending?
I remember when Kogoro's voice actor was being replaced suggesting he be killed off.
I've not thought of a character that would work better since. They're not gonna kill anyone important below the age of 30 most likely and I can't think of an example that would work better. Maybe James Black?

I've been with this series for too long, so nope! NON of them should die
Gosho Aoyama already set the tone pretty clearly from the start: that it's a mystery suspense but also love comedy
I have a feeling that he loves his own creation too much to just kill them off

Just think about it. if Akai had died off so many people would complain about Gosho not "finishing plot points" or something like that, because Akai did say that it's not time for Haibara to meet him yet during two moons...
For Akai it really doesn't matter which route he takes in the end, I'm just waiting for the next movie with hype.
