What brought you here..
So, as I am bored and have nothing better to do than refresh the front page of these forums constantly for 5 hours straight.. I figure I'll post up another question.
When and where (Case Closed DVD, Adult Swim, Japan, fansub online, etc.) did you see your first episode of DC? If you can recall that far back, what episode was it?
I believe the first time I saw it was on Adult Swim back when they were first airing them.. I don't remember what episode it was but I know that the murderer had wet sleeves so he wore a jacket... Conan had him take it off and the murderer was revealed. I stopped watching for awhile, but something sparked my interest and I eventually starting looking online for the fansubs because I naturally preferred them as someone who had already watched much anime previously. I found AConan's site first when they were in their late 60's early 70's subbing I believe. I was pretty crushed when they stopped subbing, but to much avail I found DCTP and my prayers were answered once again.

Adult Swim. I saw the case about the murder on the boat. However, I only saw the first half and, as a I really to know what happened I did ridiculous things to watch the episodes. I stayed up till 1:30, woke up at 4:30 other times and I missed it all the same. Then I went to the adult swim website and checked out the forums. I saw one of Knightus' posts about some group of episodes called 'Desparate Revival' which intrigued me, because it was episodes 188-193, had funi already gotten that far I wondered. I then found KnKF and from there I found the Conan fandom.

Re: What brought you here..
I started watching a little over two years ago. The first thing I saw was the first film. I didn't know what was going on when Conan knocked out Kogoro and ducked behind the table speaking into his bowtie. I heard about case closed from my sister who has always been into anime and Holmes while it was on Cartoon network, but as I never really enjoyed anime (except Dragonball (not z or gt)), I didn't listen. I remembered about it though as I came to a dry patch in my British mystery season having already watched everything available online (uknova) or through netflix with new shows several months away. I found the first movie on a torrent site and the rest of the series on anime-eden. It took me a long time to get around to watching the first film because I judged the book by the animated cover. Since then, I have grown to appreciate anime and especially Detective Conan.

Re: What brought you here..
I started watching one night on Adult Swim. At the time, and even now, I like very few animes. Therefore it would take something special to garner my attention..
The first thing I remember seeing was during a usual Conan via Kogoro deduction show (can't remember the ep) .. and all I remember noticing was that it was showing Conan talking and Kogoro's voice being used.. then I noticed that Kogoro was asleep.. then I started understanding the deduction, and how he tied up all the loose ends.. from there, it was love.

Re: What brought you here..
I forget whether my first episode was... the first episode or the Mist Goblin Murder. It was Case Closed, and I remember first hearing about it in July 2004. One of the Funimation reps was telling me about it, since we were sharing a room at San Diego Comicon. (Apparently Funi tried to cram like 10 of them in a single room, I was there with Score Ent and were only 2 to a room, so we invited a couple of them out of that sardine can they called a room.)
Don't remember the exact time I saw the episodes, but it was between that Comicon and when the DVDs were released... just can't remember when exactly.

My first episode was on Adult Swim with the Valentine's Day murder when conan is curious about who Ran was meeting at that party, but then it turned into a disaster. But it was last year when I was tired of waiting for them to dub some more episodes, so I just went to fansubs.

I watched it first on GMA 7, a local channel in the Philippines. I think it was the first episode. Maybe it's because that's the only channel we used to watch. But Detective Conan was never considered a past time for me unlike the other Anime shown on that channel before.

It seems like most of us owe our great infatuation to Adult Swim. Thank you people at Adult Swim.

I was 10 in 4th grade and for some reason i was up at 5: 30 in the morning. Then this show comes on and im like hmmm this is interesting. It was the case of the twin brothers where 1 brother kills the other and make it seem like he's still alive and fool the police. Ever since then ive been waking up at 5:30 (until they canceled it) And i couldn't find it online because they changed the name to Detective Conan >.<

Re: What brought you here..
Two and a half years ago, almost exactly. My brother had been watching Detective Conan for quite a while and had already tried to introduce me to it, but I was really busy with school work and didn't have the chance. A little later, he was watching an episode, and I came while he was still at the beginning... he didn't notice me. I dragged a chair in front of his computer, sat down and followed it by the subtitles.... and totally fell in love with it
The first episode I ever watched was: #46 - The Snowy Mountain Villa Murder Case
And I first watched it as Detective Conan/Meitantei Conan (many thanks to Anime-Conan, of course), not as Case Closed (I didn't watch much TV) contrary to many people.
btw, it was first Meitantei Conan (or 'Detective Conan') then Case Closed in USA.

Re: What brought you here..
same as kat1214, on our one of our local channels... but they were just repeating episodes 1-50 i think (it was dubbed with our language and most of the important facts are being replaced with random unrelated words lol) ... then its was after a few years that i started to go with fansubs (yes i watched all those XCHKS subs too)^^

Re: What brought you here..
The first time I saw Conan was in an Anime Insider article about animes that were (then) recently licensed, and DC happened to be one of them. At first, I thought the show looked stupid, just by looking at one of the screenshots that was printed on the page (ironically, the screenshot that was on the page happens to be one of my favorites today
). The ears were too big, the noses looked funny, yaddayaddayadda...funny how I adore the art 5 years after this.
About a year later in summer 2004, I had a hard time sleeping, so I turned on the TV and DC was on (it was the twin brothers case, I think). I had nothing else to do, so I just watched it. I liked it a fair bit, and watched it early in the morning a couple of times, then eventually forgot about it until the following summer, where I started watching it again. Then a good friend of mine bought me the first English volume of the manga after she heard me talking about it and then became full-blown obsessed with it.
I think what drew me to this series was the clever case setups and academic atmosphere of it, and that there weren't much series like it out there. And to be honest, I owe it to DC for getting me into crime fiction and documentaries.

Amen to that. I figured if Conan's obsessed with it, it's good enough for me. I purchased a more recent detective series and also a leather bound collection of every word about Sherlock Holmes ever written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I have to admit, it's some of the finest literature I've ever read.Shakura wrote: And to be honest, I owe it to DC for getting me into crime fiction and documentaries.![]()

Re: What brought you here..
I first started watching anime period last year. I was looking through the descriptions of several anime series based on my favorite genres (mystery, romance, horror, etc.) and I came across this series (around July of last year -- I remember because I watched the second movie with my daughter on the night of her birthday). I started watching at the very first episode (DL'd from demonoid) and was hooked.
I probably would have never learned about it if it wasn't for the Internet since I avoid watching television like the plague. I can't remember the last time I sat down to watch a TV show...
