Why do people dislike Ran?

IMO i don't hate her at all. I mean what she does is what the author want her to. I just wonder why Gosho doesn't let her play bigger role in DC. She's the second main character and yet she doesn't have any specific moment for her own. I don't understand the intention of Gosho, making her the second main character but keeping her from REALLY BEING the main character. Just doesn't seem fair for Ran at all! I hope there will be a way to make Gosho change his mind. *I will write a private letter to Ghoso to tell him my opinion if i know the adress!!* muahhhhhh hahahahhaha.

I hope special thing will happen on Ran's birthday. Gosho stated that her birthday will play a major role in the story so im looking forward for this!!
In the future, when Ran knows about Conan's identity, maybe Ran will interfere in the BO thing. I don't think Gosho make her the second main character but let her sit at home waiting for Shinichi and the rest to deal with BO. I think Ran has started to suspect Conan is Shinichi but she is investigating on her own and keeps secret!!

This is really a thread I appreciate, since Ran has been a topic I think about since the beginning of the series.
I want to write this, and that, but when I read this comment, it pretty much summed up the exact thoughts I had:

Not that it can't. More like it won't because it's not Gosho's style. He's way to focused on maintaining the status quo for as long as possible, which I happen to disagree with. Having a status quo is good in that it allows you a backdrop on which to paint your world and the events within. The problems start when you put maintaining the status quo ahead of everything else to the detriment of other parts of the story. When you have characters trapped in holding patterns for years because it would disrupt the status quo for them to progress any further... well, it's time for a new status quo.

Character development has to flow naturally with the story, else you break reader immersion. If you hold it back for too long because it's inconvenient to the plot you're going to end up committing character assassination to keep them from progressing as they should. People will grow tired and resentful because they can't accept how dense the character is being portrayed. Especially if the character in question was portrayed as highly competent beforehand. This is what is happening to Ran. She's been stripped of everything that made her an interesting character just to serve the status quo.

I mean, let's face it. The problem is, the series has been dragging on way too long for Gosho's purposes.

He doesn't actually want deep character development. It's not the way that he doesn't care about them, it's just not more important to him than maintaining the status quo he wants to maintain. Gosho absolutely refuses to stray away on a different path. Yes, we know it's about the mysteries.... But neglecting character growth for decades (come on... seriously!) is just a mistake in my view.
I feel like he is missing out on so many twists this story could take BESIDES the mysteries, that he's obstructing the credibility of not only Ran but many other characters/relationships in there as well. What's the problem with them aging (a bit)? What's the problem with creating a different drama than the one that has been dragging on for years "Need to hide from my close-to-girlfriend yadda yadda"?

I love Conan, I do, have done so since my childhood days. But I hate to see a show take a turn for the worse because it has passed the point of no return. Where you feel like "It'd be better if it ended now."

I know this might be a bad example, but I like to come up with One Piece in these situations. It's a super long series as well, but it manages to flesh out its characters while keeping up a pretty suspenseful story at the same time. But you have to care about the characters' development at least as much as you do for the plot.

this shows how much Ran is unrealistic...she really is too perfect,which makes her a good character,but not someone I can appreciate as much as I want.I like flaws because you can overcome them to be a better person,this is more interesting than someone who is perfect,especially in such a long manga as DC.
