Later when Ran saved him as Conan he was complaining about how it just wasn't right his new body meant a girl had to save him, implying that he thinks he could've handled the culprit himself in his teen body without tranquilizers or super shoes. He even tried to land a flying kick on the culprit during that fight, not exactly something he'd pick up directly from soccer. Then there's the scene Kirite mentioned. I'd hope Aoyama doesn't make him so ridiculous that he could beat the other Makoto, but I'm afraid he's probably at least a match for Ran (or at least he thinks he is).

3 Points:
1) I will bet you he was not always able to dodge Ran's kicks... He probably learned after many many many painful encounters with Ran's foot. He likely learned out of necessity... I mean if a girl is kicking at you every so often with the power to break walls... you are going either learn how to dodge or start paying rent at the hospital for a permanent reserve room.

2) There is absolutely no evidence of martial prowess on the side of Shinichi. None, read the manga, watch the anime, and even the noncanon movies. There is simply no evidence of Shinichi being able to fight. First ep, Conan throws a kick... well that's great and all, but have you seen all of the crazy kicks a soccer player can pull off? How do we know that wasn't a soccer kick that he was using as a last resort? I for one have never seen him throw a punch, or perform any form of throw ever. In movie 7 (noncanon I know) Heiji mentions how Shinichi sucked as a samurai, right as he kicks a villain. Oh and please don't give me that crap about not being 100%, because I have seen IRL martial artists fighting with all sorts of disabilities, like broken bones, and sicknesses, including a sparring partner of mine who has a permanent back problem after an injury. The only thing we know shinichi can do is kick a damned ball. And again, that to me seems an awful inconvenience.

3) Just random... what does that ability have anything to do with fighting? Just seems something cool that he can do... As for kicking the gun... Doesn't seem hard to do if you confuse the person thinking that you somehow stole their bullets before hand, making them distracted... It doesn't take a martial arts master to kick a gun out of someone's hand that is already nervous and disturbed.

@ rellik: If he is... I can't wait to see him fight when he gets his body back. But... why muay thai? Seems to me Gosho would rather stay true to Japan... I'd say... Kyukoshin Karate would be the next best thing.

Conan's definitely the best. I hate Shinichi, well not literally, but I hate his attitude. He's like a total different person, way too different from Conan in my opinion. As someone said, he acts like an over-confident rich bastard, it's like he totally forgets about his Conan-attitude.

In short - when I watch Shinichi, I feel like he's a whole different person.
So I vote for Conan, he's so cute, how can I resist him?

Indeed, they don't seem like the same person. lol The thing is, even when Shinichi was still young, he was so different from Conan now. Shinichi, either young or a teenager, is such a big-headed person. I don't hate him though, but let's just say that I'm happy there are more Conan cases than Shinichi cases. 

Heiji rivals Shinichi at being a detective, and is also a master class at Kendo. Shinichi gave up soccer to concentrate on being a detective, but Heiji has time for both (Kendo in his case). I get the feeling Shinichi spent more time researching and improving his detective skills. Kid is another teenage super genius with overall skills possibly higher than Shinichi. [...] Then you have Yusaku who always puts Shinichi in his place.

Even though Heiji rivals Shinichi, I don't think he will ever get at the same level as Shinichi. Yes, Heiji does have both (cases + kendo), but Shinichi has to deal with more cases (intro of episode 490), not to mention his very complicated case now with the BO; and Shinichi only gave up on soccer a while before that. Now about Kaitou Kid, I believe he's the only one who could stand as a rival for him, mostly because even Shinichi couldn't catch him; yet they both have different, outstanding, skills (Shinichi has his deductions, Kid has his abilities). As for Yusaku, I think it's pretty normal that he surpasses his son, not only because of the age and experience differences, but also because he literally taught him everything.

Yeah! I Agree!!! Shinchi is bored with people who are dolts. The dolts made him arrogant. (DB, Ran, detective Mouri) He really changed because of a certain person that helped him see things in a different light and that person challenged his intelligence.  He met his match and that person also made him use his skills for more serious matters.  I won't say her name because it will start an argument off topic....(cough cough)

(I'm breaking the mold.... I HATE Shinichi as a character. You will recall, first episode, he was a pompous egotistical jerk. However... Kudo, as Conan, I also hate. As stated above, it just isn't right....)
