So far the AO going on right now is pretty darn good, though I suppose it all comes down to who did it and how it happened, if its something silly, whole series of episodes could be ruined lol.

I agree.  I still need to watch the last episodes.
I know it lost in the Survivor thread, but I love the Santa-san one.  Mostly because of Conan's face when they come out of the bathroom.  Plus, Ran's hair's in a ponytail.  I know that's really shallow, but she's adorable.

Can't think of any older AO eps right off, but the current Seance locked door murder cases seems like they could've been good manga-based eps.  Too bad that those eps couldn't have just been aired as a special.

After rewatching several old episodes, I feel the strongest AOs that could have fit right into the manga were:

36. Monday Night 7:30 P.M. Murder Case
66. Night Road Murder Case
88-89. Dracula's Villa Murder Case
150-151. The Truth of the Exploding Car Case
159-160. Bizarre! The Legend of the Five Storied Pagoda
184. A Cursed Mask Coldly Laughs
208. The Entrance to the Maze: The Anger of Colossus (Honestly, this was the one that I was surprised the most to find out it was an AO. The plot and mystery felt like something that fits into the manga)
All of the Courtroom Confrontations
352-353. The Fishing Tournament Tragedy
379-380. Case of the Long Sleeved Kimono at the Hidden Hot Spring on a Snowy Night
603-605. The Seance's Double Locked Room Mystery

the amount of avatars I haven't seen in a long time bothers me

I forget the exact episode number but there was one episode with Yusaku/Yukiko where I was tricked through most of it that it was gonna be a major plot episode because the Opening that introduced Kir/Chianti/Korn too early.

You mean 418?

exactly

because it ends in a way that is unusual for a Yusaku detective-ex-machina episode, I appreciate it for that alone

‘Filler’ in Conan would mean 99% of the episodes.

Also, I don't know any AOs that could've been magna-based. Now, as for manga-based, I liked the recent Noh Mansion one.

Well more accurately 99% of 99% of the episodes.

The aforementioned Seance case from 603-605 seems to be one of the most well-received non-story cases of any sort from the past several years. It was quite good indeed.

I initially thought the "Fearful Traversing Murder Case" (episodes 92-93) were manga based. Well done in my opinion.
