Maybe just to show there's some mystery around Akai that'll be unraveled. (or not)
True. There seems to be quite a few people who have not even realized that scar Akai might not actually be Akai. With the Vermouth arc, it was clear Vermouth was disguised as somebody, so there was no question that somebody wasn't who they said they were. With the opening displaying it this way, maybe it will occur to more people that there exists the chance that scar Akai is someone is disguise. It's hard to solve a mystery if you aren't aware of its existence.

Maybe the animators are hinting? I like that they juxtaposed the real Akai and scar Akai like they are not the same person.
Kinda like Evil Eisuke ;)
Ouch, that's a clean hit.

TOP SECRET don't tell anyone: The OP animators come to the DCTP boards for ideas.
If they did that then Haibara would show up in the ending animations.

New op was lame! No Chiba, no Yumi and worst of all barely any Satou and Takagi. They show up for one second tangled in police tape, at the back of a crowed, Takagi salutes and Satou smooths her hair back. MAGIC was better.
We have a lot of ShinxRan moments(which if i remember,we have in each op(except Clash between Red in Black)),we have kaito kid ,we have BO,we have the continuation of the Clash of Red and Black story arc.
