And it's probably the reason why I like ai as well, her cold personality + sarcastic attitude is just very appealing to me, while Ran, being the more typical female archetype (extremely caring and nice+damsel in distress) is just rather drab to me.
Yeah, i´m not bad enough... Isn´t their any girl who like a Eisuke-typ guy?
Girl one: I like the cool type like Kaito...
Girl two. The smexy looking one like Hakuba...
Girl three: The hot--blooded one like Heiji...
Girl four: Or the caring, intelligent and full of courage guy like Shinichi...

Me: Damn you, Eisuke! Damn you!
PS: I agree with you about liking Ai.^^

I really like Ran, but I agree that she hasn't been showing much of the badass-ness that I liked about her! :P I accept that she has different sides to her personality, obviously she has weaknesses (i.e. ghosts, Shinichi, sad stories, Shinichi.....) but the Ran in the aftermath of the Highway Murder case didn't seem like the same one. She became a bit too quiet and gentle in my opinion (just running up to Shinichi and holding on to his sleeve without saying anything? :S). I don't mind her crying as much as this sudden personality change, her crying is actually at least consistent with a character that wears her heart on her sleeve.

I'd like to see more of Haibara's personality too :( I really liked the part of the series when she was listening to the tapes from her mother. That was a new side of Haibara that I never saw before! I have to credit Gosho for the Agasa-Haibara grandfather-daughterly relationship though, I'm glad he showed that natural development at least. :D

I preferred the old detective boys too (lol I sound like such a whiner) cos they had their own distinct personalities (e.g. Ayumi as the cute tomboy, Genta the one who bullies everybody, Mitsuhiko the smart aleck who follows Ayumi around) and they weren't so dependent on Conan. I like that they are much closer friends now, but then again now they are all just Generic Good!-Kids. I want to see more of their different characters shining through (besides the numerous references to Genta's love of unagi, lol) and maybe bully/make fun of Conan more, like what they used to do. :P

I think the one character whose development I've liked the whole series is Shinichi. I guess that's because he's the main character and has the most time for Gosho to properly develop his character... But it's nice how he's changed from this big-headed, somewhat immature high school kid to a more mature and humbled person (funny how he had to shrink first in order to grow up, ha ha). I think it's probably a good thing that he got shrunk, when he became a kid he had to learn to rely on other people more, and being burdened with the task of protecting those close to him probably made him a lot more careful. It's obviously not the ideal life for a high schooler, but it would probably make him a much better professional detective in the future if he does become one (which he will).

She wasn't praying for a call or a sign from above. She was still thinking about what he would do in her situation, ie trying to remember if he already told her something that's relevant to the situation. Like when she remembered his talk about differences from the ordinary being key that got her to ask if Aya did something different than the other employees. Also when she decided to look for an alibi for Maeda in Night Baron. Her thoughts are pretty damn explicit on this one.

Whether that's really supposed to be a desirable feminine humility or is indeed low self-esteem, I don't know. (I wonder if Haibara were with Ayumi in the above scenario, rather than with a boy, if she'd have given the same ego boost, or just agreed that Conan is great...)
No sure what you mean here. Do you mean Haibara & Ayumi on the hunting grounds or swapping out Ran & Sonoko for Haibara & Ayumi at the covinece store?
...
If Haibara were bandaged by Ayumi instead of Mitsuhiko.

Also when she decided to look for an alibi for Maeda in Night Baron. Her thoughts are pretty damn explicit on this one.
I was actually to bring up the Night Baron case myself as it acts a great comparison for this situation.
In the Night Baron Case, Ran struggles with the belief that someone she admires could be the culprit and decides to do something Shinichi would do, search for an alibi. She ultimately succeeds in finding the witness and did it on her own, without asking for help, without worrying if she was wrong, and without worrying how foolish she would look running around the hotel. But imagine if the case took a turn similar to Ran's deduction and when she found the alibi witness, instead of rushing them to the police she would go into another internal struggle thinking what would Shinichi would do with the witness.

Yeah, it seems like a crazy thing but that's how her final actions in Ran's deduction look. Everything Ran did in that case was in character(though it didn't help in making her look strong) until the climax. At this point, Ran has found something she can help Aya with but instead curls up while thinking of Shinichi and this isn't Ran in character. Your arguing that she wasn't waiting for a sign or a call but what was she waiting for then? The situation wasn't going to change magically and the culprit wasn't just going to walk out to surrender. She also wasn't just trying to work up the nerve to act when a friend in was in danger because that would just break her character. So Ran really had no valid in character reason to wait other than the magic call from Shinichi(what Gosho probably wanted) and that was bad writing on his part.
Nyarl wrote: If Haibara were bandaged by Ayumi instead of Mitsuhiko.
I don't see why she would of reacted differently. She's already shown that she really isn't impress with Conan's vast general knowledge(unless he's applying it, which keeps her constant) and has even gone far enough to tell him to "Shut up"(Do you have to say something for everything?) indirectly if he's pushing it-The Tragedy of the Pier in Plain Sight(ep.366). So even if it was the cub that was bandaging her, she still would be more impressed that the cub used the knowledge given to it over that Conan knew such knowledge.
