tell me about it, and I love ran's English VA
You guys can't be serious... I could go on for weeks, criticizing the VAs... Actually, I kinda did that with my friends already!
oh get over it, the dub can not be held to the same standard as the subs. the subs get to say what ever they want, the dub has to say the same thing within the time requirements set by the lip movements of the  original.  also they have to put in the same emotion into their performances as the original, also they may want to do something with the character that  makes more sense in English. I say that dubs might not be better but they are more enjoyable to watch.
That's not the say the dub is the worst. Kogoro's voice is perfect, the best of the bunch, and Megure's voice is also incredibly well done. And if you've ever heard Shiratori's, you'll hear how much of a PERFECT fit Eric Vale was in that role. And according to the movie 5 trailer, they finally got Gin's voice right. But you can't just tell people to "get over it." If they think it's crap, then they think it's crap, which it seems a majority think. And also, on the lip movement argument, even the Japanese version has audio that doesn't match lip movements.
I agree, Megure, Kogoro, Shirtatori (aka, Santos lmao), Gin, and Kudo all have good VAs.  The guy who voices Richard should learn japanese, so then we can send his ass to Japan to replace the current seiyuu for Kogoro.

Genta's voice is also pretty good, I think it suits him quite well.

My least favorite would have to be Rachel's, Conan's, Mit, Ayumi (omg, I thought she was annoying in the original version, godamn), and I've started to dislike Ai's when I saw movie 4.
I agree takagi has a bad VA,  he just can't get it right, howver I LOVE rans english VA more then the japanese one sometime because I think she captures ran from from the manga better thenthe japanese va, for example ran in japanese when she is looking for conan sounds like she just worried where is he has gone, however in english you can hear her exasperation about this being the nth time she is looking for him, also I heard that one clip of mitch and he does not sound nearly as bad in any of his other line, if you actually bought the movie and watched the dub instead of a 20 second clip of it online then you would know that. also why does everyone hate agasa he sounds he doing the English equivalent of the japanese va to me. and once again I have got to say that Richard is one of the best VA's in case closed. also I LOVE vi/ai/sherry/this girl has to many names, english VA and I can not wait to hear her performance in movie 5. both of genta's VA's do a good job with him. I think the dub quality  will continue to go up if they do get more stuff because they stopped focusing on the primetime audience and are focused on the fans of the series now.

I don't remember the original VA having using a German accent, but maybe it's just me. :P However, there are times that it is a little too much that stuff is a little hard to hear. For example, when he's presenting his riddle to the kids in The Last Wizard of the Century, I had no idea what he said, because it was said too fast for that kind of a voice, and I only understood it when Vye (talking about English dub, so using English name to prevent confusion) explained the solution.

For me, I don't really care if a dub is mediocre or excellent (poor, however, is a different story). I won't let it affect my viewing pleasure. I'm still waiting for Captured in Her Eyes to arrive. Hopefully, it will be tomorrow. Since I haven't seen anything from this movie past the trailers, I'll probably be more focused on the movie than the voices. :P

Umandsf wrote: Looks like FUNimation has updated their main website with new trailers for Countdown to Heaven and The Phantom of Baker Street. The first was online for a while, so no caring much about it, but I have to say that the latter trailer was very interesting. I think I'll say it's better than the original (except for music, of course). Mid-February can't come soon enough.

See them here.
