Re: conan redub by funimation
more news about conan from AX, one of the forum members was there and she had this to say when she got back
I was at AnimeExpo. Unfortunately I was not at the panel due to playing in a Naruto CCG Kage Tournament, so I made a point to seek out Adam Sheehan at the booth. Finally caught him Sunday as the hall was closing. I worked with Adam as a frequent convention volunteer, tournament judge, & freelance writer when he was with Score (they made the Case Closed TCG, as well as the extremely successful DBZ CCG), so he knew my name before I had to introduce myself.
A quick summary of what he said:
- Case Closed has been selling better with each season.
- The Viridian Collections could have a say in if the series will be renewed.
- They are at the end of their 130 episode contract.
- No comment on leaked movie 3 trailer. We will hear news TBA.
- They know what movies they have but cannot release that to the public.
- Recommendation is reverse importing if you want the series now.
- If the series is ever picked up again, expect at least a 1 year break. Think 2011, and that's still an if.
- Case Closed was put on the back burner with all of the big licenses like Evangelion 1.11 and... I think he said FMA Brotherhood or Soul Eater. But they know about it and are aware of it, and you never know.
This is an interesting quandry, but hey... read into it what you will.
It's not the "no interest in dubbing episodes"... I'd like to interpret it as "we just got numbers back from the season sets, and would like to take those into consideration for a new license." Remember, even if they pick up a new license, it takes a bit of time to dub it as well.

Re: conan redub by funimation
the Viridian collection box art for season 2 is out. it is called detective conan and the detective boys.
I guess they are trying to say bye bye bye to the junior detective league.

Nice how the title and the art don't match at all. Quality checking at its finest.

If this is true, you really can't feel sorry for Funimation or blame anyone from not getting into the series and eventually purchasing it.yukionna wrote: I suppose that would be a little better. They might also consider making Hattori live in Osaka and not Alberta.
His reason might not be total bullshit as Case Closed was broadcast on a another channel as part of "Funimation's Anime block" which placed Case Closed at an earlier slot, 8pm(eastern time) followed by other "light"* animes like Slayers. Then around 10 they ran the "heavy"* stuff like Grappler Baki and Blue Gender. Them re dubbing the whole series, well that is bullshit as they wouldn't be pumping out boxsets like they are if that was the ultimate goal.GinRei wrote: Not going to happen. That rep obviously didn't know what he was talking about. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but the fact that he states the names were changed because of it being broadcast is bullshit.
It was only ever on adult swim. The same broadcasting block that kept the original names of characters in other shows such as Bleach, Blood+, Code Geass, Death Note, FLCL, Inuyasha, Lupin the Third, YuYu Hakusho, as well as others which likely kept their character names but I haven't seen to confirm such as Blue Gender, Eureka Seven, Evangelion, etc.
It doesn't sell well enough to warrant redubbing for unreleased sets where they actually could change names, as well as fix errors that occur because of japanese/english angles, so why would they redub just for names? From volume 19 (I think that's the one where Kazuha is introduced) and onwards in the manga, names stopped being changed unless they already had been. Despite this, Funimation still changed her name and everyone else's name in that episode.
Knowing funi and using their logic, they wanted to stir sales by having two key icons on the cover and a dark picture to show that this was a "hardcore anime" regardless of what the title implied.GinRei wrote: Nice how the title and the art don't match at all. Quality checking at its finest.

first of all Heiji being from Alberta is unintentionally hilariousTheBlind wrote:kkslider5552000 wrote: I find it hard to believe that Case Closed has ever made Funimation a dime in the first place. second of all I meant it's a shame that the ONE anime that Funi has dubbed poorly in the last 7 years (although I've heard bad things about Negima!?@#$^* or whatever it's called too) is the best anime that has ever existed

negima doesn't have a bad dub though a lot people hate the anime version.kkslider5552000 wrote:first of all Heiji being from Alberta is unintentionally hilariousTheBlind wrote:kkslider5552000 wrote: I find it hard to believe that Case Closed has ever made Funimation a dime in the first place. TMS forced the change, but I guess when CC got removed in 2006 and the dvds sales started to slow down, they finally realized conan was a hit in the US but the damage had been done since funi had already dubed the episodes

You mean the Funimation Channel? The one that was their own channel, and as such they can keep whatever names they damn well please?TheBlind wrote: His reason might not be total bullshit as Case Closed was broadcast on a another channel as part of "Funimation's Anime block" which placed Case Closed at an earlier slot, 8pm(eastern time) followed by other "light"* animes like Slayers. wait it's on 8 now?! I remember it being on at 1:30 before it stopped being on at all. Huh.GinRei wrote:You mean the Funimation Channel? (this has nothing to do with the topic but considering Viz's anime (like Hunter X Hunter) is on Funi channel, I still don't know why they don't just make it an anime channel to completely convince the niche audience to get the channel)

It was on at various times. I recall catching it at like 2:30, 3:30, 4:00, 8:00 (all pm) and 10:00 am. Last I checked, it's not even on there anymore.

Case Closed returns to Funimation Channel starting July 20. Airtimes are 2:30pm, 11:00pm, 2:30am, and 5:30am. Problem is hardly anybody gets the channel. Plus, how many times can you these reruns if they never progress past the 40's?
