It did, but not in Movie 8. I assume the person/Startold meant Shinichi which means

I already had my hopes down when it was announced that the writer for this movie was the same one who did Movie 17. Still, I like that they're focusing on paintings this time so I'm not giving up on that premise.

Also KID is going crazy is also stupid. This has been done in the manga before and EVERYBODY knows that KID doesn't harm people!

What makes you think that? Sure, you might dislike the plot, but, as far as I know, KID is extremely popular in the Japanese fanbase and thus this movie is expected to top Movie 18 in terms of box office (atleast that's what I have read in that chinese spoiler thread from the preview screening). And I think that prognosis could certainly come true, atleast it's more probable than this movie being "the pit".

Personally I think the movie looks fun (being a Kid fan helps too)

Movie 17 is good, if on the less interesting side of good (though not movie 12 levels of "good yet boring"). But maybe it helps that it came after Movie 16.
