Cases that are very "of their times".
With a series that has lasted over two decades like Conan has, there have been plenty of ways the real world has changed and thus these changes have been subsequently shown over time in the manga/anime.
This is not meant to be a point of criticism, but, from what you guys remember, what are cases that have something about them that makes them clearly tied to the time period they aired? (They can be from long ago or even recent ones)
Besides the basic method of how phones have advanced in the series from pay phones to cell phones to more recently smartphones, I've thought of:
Magic Lover's Club: This very much feels like a 90s story, as Ran seemed to learn what an internet forum was at the beginning of the case.
Shinichi's First Case: This one actually had its' timeliness pointed out in the official English translation of the manga: smoking on planes had been banned in 1999, shortly after the story had been published in the manga.
Actress Blogger: A more recent example, while blogs have been mentioned since the 400s, I think people becoming famous for blogs is a more recent phenomenon.
What about you guys?

That had literally one use, IIRC.kkslider5552000 wrote:Bento. Box. Fax.
On that same token, while the movies and some AOs have gotten use of it, Conan's skateboard was pretty much a non-entity in the manga after its first use early on.

When episode 37 reaired recently, there was a footnote:

Literally any early episode that involved Conan going to a phone booth as well.

Any case that mentions the statute of limitations for murder. The original statute was 15 years, extended in 2004 to 25 years, and finally completely abolished in 2010. link for reference

According to that it's only abolished for death penalty crimes, not "completely"?

Correct. Any crime committed with the potential to get the death penalty has no statute of limitations. Just like in Britain and America. Here's another link for reference. link

The Small Client case-An early, close to mid-2000s case where a key piece of evidence was from a VHS tape of a presumably recently released movie. Written in one of the last years of mainstream VHS.

Episode 75 where a police officer accidently turns a computer on and then wonders 'Can I turn this thing off ?' with another officer going 'I don't know'.

There was a fanfic which brought up an example, though mind you I don't recall which story it happened in and it's not case related.
But apparently there were occasions where Ran would pick up drinks on Kogoro's behalf, but laws nowaday forbid a parent from asking their underage child (even if near adulthood) to pick up alcoholic beverages for them.

The Mystery of Conan Edogawa.
Arguably one of the best attempts at tackling the story of "Ran discovering the secret behind Conan". It's strong point is taking a common plot for Detective Conan fan fics and presenting it in a fresh manner such as:
- Touching on things that aren't dealt with in the show or discussed much.
- While there is some understanding towards Conan's predicament, the fic doesn't ignore the problematic approach he takes towards keeping quiet.
So, do yourself a favor and read this. I only wish I could so something half as decent.
