Kogoro's voices
Just being curious: does anybody miss the Kogoro's old voice and can't get used to the new one? I personally think the old one was perfect, and his way of laughing (like: MWAHAHAHAHA!!!) sounded more "natural". The other voice isn't similar at all, part of Kogoro's charisma is gone forever unfortunately, in my opinion.
Why did they change it anyway, since the original voice actor is alive and well?

Re: Kogoro's voices
Quoting from DC Wiki:
"It was announced on September 18th, 2009, on Kamiya's blog that due to problems with his contract, he will no longer provide the voice of Kogoro Mouri. He gave a sincere apology to the directors, writers, Gosho Aoyama, his co-stars (he specifically mentioned Minami Takayama, Wakana Yamazaki, and Kenichi Ogata), Yomiuri Television, Shogakukan, and his fans for the sudden turn of events.Though in his blog he implied he "lost his trust" in the production company, the next day he erased the contents of his blog.Starting with episode 553, Rikiya Koyama took over the role of Kogoro Mouri."
In short: he had a fight with the TV company over his contract, didn't reach a satisfying conclusion, and left.

Re: Kogoro's voices
He essentially retired after this, which is a goddamn shame. God dammit if the new guy isn't doing his best but Kamiya was just the best.

When I first watched DC I realized the voice change too.
Me: *while watching* "Did kogoro's voice actor change? Cause the 'voice acting' was sorta weird..."

Kamiya.
To be fair he was starting to sound quite old, but his Kogoro of the first few hundred episodes is unmatchable and even with an ageing voice he was still better than the new one (who got better though). Curse you TMS.
Though, outside of AOs, Kogoro is kind of irrelevant nowadays so...

Oh, is he doing new work again? Well that's...good. That's great. But he did retire for a while, I remember that.Jecka wrote:He didn't really retire tho, did he? I suppose we cannot expect voice actors to stay around forever, as much as we would like it. That said, he was very nearly perfect.

But pretty much everyone else in DC has stayed on for twenty years, or just under that.Jeetkunedo wrote:I suppose we cannot expect voice actors to stay around forever, as much as we would like it.

Apparently Akira Kamiya's wiki page says he's pretty expensive so my theory is they couldn't afford him :VDCUniverseAficionado wrote:But pretty much everyone else in DC has stayed on for twenty years, or just under that.Jeetkunedo wrote:I suppose we cannot expect voice actors to stay around forever, as much as we would like it.

Then it must be a lot, because DC had been quite popular for well before he left.Jecka wrote:Apparently Akira Kamiya's wiki page says he's pretty expensive so my theory is they couldn't afford him :VDCUniverseAficionado wrote:But pretty much everyone else in DC has stayed on for twenty years, or just under that.Jeetkunedo wrote:I suppose we cannot expect voice actors to stay around forever, as much as we would like it.

True, but anime is extremely expensive.DCUniverseAficionado wrote:Then it must be a lot, because DC had been quite popular for well before he left.Jecka wrote:Apparently Akira Kamiya's wiki page says he's pretty expensive so my theory is they couldn't afford him :VDCUniverseAficionado wrote:But pretty much everyone else in DC has stayed on for twenty years, or just under that.Jeetkunedo wrote:I suppose we cannot expect voice actors to stay around forever, as much as we would like it.
