I thought this for nearly every episode in the first year tbh. They often came across as those weird, interesting stories in a long running series before they stuck more to a formula.Mario2000 wrote:I initially thought the "Fearful Traversing Murder Case" (episodes 92-93) were manga based. Well done in my opinion.
Which AOs did you feel could have been manga-based?

This is basically my standing on it. When I was watching the anime, although I knew about fillers, none of the early ones really felt out of place as I was watching them. It was only a bit later that I started to pick up that not all of the cases were manga-based.kkslider5552000 wrote:I thought this for nearly every episode in the first year tbh. ironically, when they more and more tried to be like the cases from the manga
this is more proof to me that the anime writers need to stop trying to be Gosho, because they are not Gosho and I frequently like them when they are not trying to be

If there's going to be filler, I'd rather it be something creative and out of the box rather than the same old same old (I'm thinking like the Seance case and the Cursed Masks case - those really stood out). I mean, really - I think more of the AOs should take the opportunity to do things that Gosho probably never would do (though obviously within status quo).

actually Seance is probably the closest they've gotten to Gosho-like cases tbh. At least from how I remember it. At the very least it didn't actively go too much against what I would expect from a Conan case like that bizarre AO I saw recently with the constant failed attempted murder. But I haven't watched that since it aired.
I miss Magic Kaito btw. They had a cool thing going on with Spider. It was the type of goofy, insane shonen villain stuff I love. Please continue that someday.

I really enjoyed OVA 11 in particular. A summary: What was happening back in Beika during the London arc. Alternate summary: A quest for PB&J sandwiches.
