The best cases are both whodunits AND howdunits, but most of the time it's obvious either who did it/what the trick is, so those don't come up very often. Howdunits are probably more enjoyable, because they're require more thought to solve- with Whodunits you can find out the murderer based on their reactions to what is said (most notably, the murderer usually isn't the one who angrily yells NO ONE US DID DO IT, LET US GO HOME). Adventure cases can be exciting, or they can be boring and trite (as is the case with DB cases in general).
and yes, lol gravedig.

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

As long as the Shonen Tantei doesn't appear it's good for me!! xD LOL ..... and the Kid cases and everyother case where there's a ShinxRan or a ConanxAi moment it's fine for me.

Whodunits for me, it's similar to a multiple choice question wherein the suspects are the choices and the culprit is the correct answer...
Howdunits is harder to crack since I don't have a criminal mind (really?)... Hehe...
The open mystery cases involving the D.Boys are hard to solve cause most of the time the clues are in kanji... It's a form of limitation on my part so I don't appreciate those type of cases as compared to the other two...

Re: Favorite type of case?
cases that are good, entertaining and not too unoriginal.
although mostly cases where important stuff not related to a case happens or longer cases that can avoid being boring from beginning to end
