Conan usually had more than 40 new episodes a year. In 2007 it only got 31 new episodes. That's a fact (the ANN and Wiki episode lists are accurate). That Conan has been a distant third (at best) in its timeslot is also a fact (you can check Video Research's top ten lists verify it). That Conan pulls better ratings than other 7-8 PM big name anime is also a fact, but it is also a fact that Kekkaishi, a recent Conan lead-in on YTV, was a top ten anime which was moved to a late night death slot then cancelled. What all that means for Conan's future is speculation, but those are all verifiable facts, not "misinformation".samcurt wrote: To prevent misinformation, Kaizou should have this thread locked.
As a matter of fact, DC was allowed to move up half an hour (7pm Mondays) recently, and there are always 10 weeks a year when it's not aired at all. That doesn't mean it's cancelled.

OK, Nyarl, I retreat from what I've said. But then, this topic meant the cancellation already happened, which is certainly not the case. So a change of the topic by the admin is proper.Nyarl wrote:Conan usually had more than 40 new episodes a year. In 2007 it only got 31 new episodes. So, to wit, to avoid confusion: Meitantei Conan is not being canceled. There has been absolutely no statement to that effect, official or otherwise. Moving the show to 7PM has nothing to do with canceling it, but is (my guess) because there will be 2 different 1-hour specials coming up. Conan's ratings have been going down over the past couple of years, which is probably no big surprise to anyone, but it still rates fairly high and has huge brand recognition in Japan across multiple demographics, so (again my guess) it's probably not going to be canceled anytime soon.

I'm kinda hoping that they cancel the DC manga in Japan so Aoyama-sensei can hurry up and finish the geddem manga before global warming, WWIII, and asteroids hit us.
Seriously, though, the end of the DC anime would signal the beginning of the end of the DC manga, and I am anticipating that time. Although I'll miss Yamaguchi Kappei...

Well, all good things have to come to an end sometime. Really, I don't care whether the show ends in 40 or 400 episodes as long as it is wrapped up well. The show has been on the decline for a loonng time now (I'd personally say the shows best days were in the 140-200 range and that it began to drop off very steeply after 345). For example, having the whole Red&Black thing as 14 episodes when it easily could have been a single 2.5 hour special (yes, i know the episodes added to quite a bit more than 2.5 hours, but quite frankly they had plenty of things that could have been excised without too much pain).
Detective Movies Contest 2013: Information Thread Current Faceoff
"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

That "arc" covered 21 manga chapters. I can see cutting it down to 11 episodes if they also dropped the repetitive "story so far" segments (and the lame anime originated first meeting between Akemi and Shuuichi), but not down to one long special without very big cuts to the stories. It would just mean longer breaks between episodes, or more anime original stories anyway. It would be better for the TV producers to tell Aoyama to focus on an exciting end rather than to start deviating drastically from the manga story boarding this late in the series, in my opinion.dilbertschalter wrote: Well, all good things have to come to an end sometime. I don't think Conan will get cancelled, it will have a nice long life and have a great end not because they want it to end but because its time has come, it will happen naturally

Detective Conan does NOT have low ratings, it's still in the Top Anime in Japan!kirhidemi wrote: question?? if it has low rating, why it still airing until now...?? does the production wasting their time for this project even though no audience watching them??
It's just that it used to have better ratings before, back in 2001-2004.
