Funny you mention that EE.. I was just thinking last night that Hattori could and should have his own manga/anime series.. about all his adventures in Osaka!

i'd pay to see that. i wonder who Heiji's local rival would be? maybe even Kaito Kid.

Now that would actually be a good show instead of a Kaitou Kid show a Hattori show. I'd like to see his cases and whatnot.

On a semi-related note, OVA9 should totally be a true Conan vs. Hattori match-up. No messing around, no gimmicks--actual reasoning showdown between them.

Good idea, but the real exciting thing would have to be the case.. because:

In order for Shinichi and Heiji to have a "deduction battle/reasoning showdown" they have to actually DISAGREE.. this being the problem because they are both SUCH good detectives that usually they work in a pair.. I find it hard to believe that Heiji and Shinichi would have such different views on a case.. because they are both so incredibly good.

Heiji's first appearance may be the only time I think we'll ever see them working on a case(in the same place/time)(besides episode 490, even though at that time they didn't know who the other was) and NOT working together.. mainly because.. you can just tell also that Kudo knows Hattori.. and Hattori knows Kudo.. they work well together!

While of course I'm not trying to shun your idea Jd, I just don't see that kind of thing happening again  :-\ They are past competing with each other.

They competed against each other in the "20 Years Murder Case", though I forget the episode number.  Granted the competition didn't last long, and never really concluded, but they still did!

They definately need a deduction competition, maybe even Heiji/Kazuha vs Conan/Ran (just for comedic/romance/comedic romance value).

174, and I think it was way more working together than competing.

Yeah, they worked together for a while, but then they differed on their opinions on how it was done, or who did it (been a long time since I watched the episode, so I forget), so they split up to see who could solve it correctly first.  Then Heiji kind of got thrown off the boat, so that was that.

I lol'd.

The reason I said "no messing around, no gimmicks" is because there's always one or the other going on. 490 had them going head-to-head... without knowing it. 479 had them going head-to-head... except Conan wasn't even a contestant (not to mention that the premise behind the case was far more interesting than the case itself, but that's just me).

There are plenty of examples were they're supposedly pitted against each other as a plot device, but there's no real example of them seriously disagreeing on the case and the victor being one or the other. Hell, gimme an OVA were this happens in a serious case and they're both completely wrong--I can live with that.

hah actually these two have quite a few differing opinions which often ends up on one opening the other's eyes (more Shinichi opening Heiji's, really). But then, though they disagree, one thing we all know is that they both solve for justice and they want exactly that. But most people just enjoy Heiji's stubborn and fiery attitude more (even I). Sometimes, it creeps me out how composed Conan is...

In Heiji's first appearance, he forces a match between him and Shinichi and Shinichi seems to win, but again, he opens Heiji's eyes. But really, I have to say the character that Heiji is now strikes me much different from who he was in the first appearance in the Diplomat case. I mean, he has grow up, per se. Also, he didn't seem as comical in that episode...

Also, I would really look forward to an OVA like that. It would really highlight their different styles. I don't really care about the winner or w.e I'd just love to watch them deduct on two different paths. That would be very nice. Their wave lengths are quite different, and I think that should be brought out.
