Start of Prep Phase: October 17th, 2014
Phase change time: ~10 PM CET
General Overview
Objectives
There are two teams in the game: the evil Werewolves and the Villagers. Each side is trying to kill the other one while trying to stay alive. When one side succeeds in completely eliminating their opponents, they win.
There are a few different roles in the game that players should be familiar with. Some players will have special roles and can use special actions to influence the game or to gather information. Others will just be common Villagers or Werewolves.
When you are a Werewolf, you will learn the identity of all other players on your side. Aside from that and a few other exceptions you will not know players' roles. The game master will, of course, inform you of your own role, but sometimes even that is to be taken with a grain of salt.
In this game you are allowed to communicate publicly as well as privately with other players, and are free to lie while doing so. It is up to you to decide what information you want to reveal and what you'd rather keep to yourself, what questions you answer truthfully and what you'd rather lie about. Players - especially the Werewolves - are encouraged to pretend to be someone they're not. As a result you can rarely be certain if someone's telling the truth, and most of the time it's not easy to tell who's friend and who's foe.
Events Over The Course of The Game
The game consists of phases that are 24 hours long. It starts with Prep Phase in which you have the opportunity to become familiar with the game and your role. After that, Night phases and Day phases alternate. One of two things might happen at the end of a phase:
- When a Night phase ends, a player might be killed by the Werewolves.
- When a Day phase ends, a player might be lynched by the entire town.
Rules
Roles and Their Abilities
Seer / Fool (Villager)
See: You learn one player's role.
Both Seer and Fool will be informed that their role is Seer. While the Seer will always receive correct results, those that the game master relays to the Fool may or may not be.
Note: The Fool's role will be revealed as Seer upon death. The Fool is also seen as Seer.
All Guardians that are in the game know each other's identity. All Guardians together can use their action Protect only once each Night.
Protect: You can save one player in case the Werewolves try to kill them. Use of this action changes the Werewolves' Kill target to a random Guardian in case you try to protect a Common Werewolf - even if the Werewolves decided not to use Kill that phase. You may not protect a Guardian.
Angel (Villager)
No abilities
Can't be killed by the Werewolves at Night.
Ghost (Villager)
The Ghost can use the action Kill the first Night phase after dying only.
Kill: You kill one player. It won't be stopped by the Guardians' Protect or the Angel's protection.
No abilities
You will be informed that your role is Common Villager, but will be seen as Common Werewolf by Seer and Devil. Your role will be revealed as Common Villager upon death.
Devil (Werewolves)
See: You learn one player's role.
While playing on the Werewolves' side, the Devil is unaware of their identities and the Werewolves aren't aware of the Devil's.
Cupid (Villager)
Amor: You pick two players during Prep Phase that will be lovers for that game. When one lover dies, the other will commit suicide. More about lovers and they mean for the game, take a look at Cross Lovers (see below).
Common Villager
No abilities
Common Werewolf
All Common Werewolves that are in the game know each other's identity. All Common Werewolves together can use their action Kill only once each Night.
Kill: You kill one player.
Each Day phase every player, no matter what role they've been assigned, can cast a vote for any player still alive by posting a message in the game topic. Whoever receives the most votes will be lynched. In case of a tie, one player among those with the most votes is picked randomly to be lynched. Specific rules:
- You have to vote a player who is alive as of the phase the vote is cast. Voting a dead player or someone who isn't even playing is invalid. You may vote yourself.
- You may abstain by not sending any vote. Once you have sent in a vote, though, you cannot withdraw it. You may still change the target.
- You are not allowed to edit a message declaring your vote in any way. In order to change your vote, create a new post.
Cross Lovers
So far the rules have shown the game to be one in which two sides try to kill each other, and the one that remains wins. That often is true. There is one phenomenon, though, that can change that. When there are lovers in the game, and both are Villagers, they will play for the Villagers' side. When they are both Werewolves, they will play for the Werewolves' side. But what happens when one of them is a Villager and the other one is a Werewolf? In that case it is the two of them up against all other players. The only way for them to win is for all other Villagers and all other Werewolves to die. In a way they make up a third team in the game.
Please note: unless you are part of the lovers, you won't be told if cross lovers are in the game. You won't even be told if lovers are in at all. So you won't know if it's Werewolves vs Villagers, or if there is a third team as well.
Gameplay
- You are allowed to discuss the game in private messages with other players at all times while both of you are alive, and in this topic during Day phases. There is no public discussion during Night phases.
- In order to use your abilities, send a private message to the GM. If you want to change how or if you want to use an ability, you can do so as long as the phase is ongoing by sending another message.
- In order to vote, post a public message in this topic. Please make clear that it is your official vote rather than a consideration on your part to avoid confusion.
- Once you have died, no matter how that happened, you are dead and therefore considered 'out of the game'. From that point forward you can no longer use your abilities or vote, and are to stop discussing the game in this topic as well as using private messages with anyone who is still alive, or influence the game in any way until it ends. You are allowed to talk about the game with other players that have died.
Note: This rule changes slightly when it comes to the Ghost. See role description for more information. - If you have any questions concerning any rules, feel free to ask the GM privately.
Assigning Roles
In this game the number of players participating determines how many of each role are in the game.
- 10 players or less: 1 Common Werewolf
- between 11 and 16: 2 Common Werewolves
- between 17 and 22: 3 Common Werewolves
Some special roles are always in, and there is only one of them in each game:
- Seer
- Angel
- Guardian, though there is a second Guardian in when there are 23 players or more
- Traitor
- 11 players or more: Ghost
- 13 players or more: Cupid
- 14 players or more: Fool
- 22 players or more: Devil
Who plays which role throughout the game, the GM decides randomly.
Guidelines
- Do not attempt to participate with more than one username. This is grounds for permanent banning from any and all future games.
- No petitioning the GM for information about the roles of other players or attempting to influence the tasks of the moderator (asking for certain hints, etc).
- You may not quote, screenshot, or otherwise duplicate or showcase messages from the GM to prove your role, actions, or results.
- Encrypted codes or any initiative that requires knowledge of the role you hold in order to prove yourself to others is not allowed.
What to Keep in Mind
- Unlike Mafia or Espionage, in this game you vote by posting in the game topic rather than using a private message.
- Unlike Mafia or Espionage, in this game you are not allowed to post in the game topic during Night phases.
- Unlike Mafia or Espionage, in this game the role the game master provides you with when the game starts doesn't necessarily have to be correct.
- Unlike Mafia, in this game you cannot leave a will to be published upon your death.
- Unilke Mafia and Espionage, in this game ties don't cancel the lynching.
Lastly, I'm not making this a rule, but I would ask players to be careful when it comes to editing. From the second something is posted, it's possible another player has seen it. If that has happened, it would be unfair to withhold that information from players who haven't seen it yet by editing it out or deleting it. If you have an additional thought shortly after posting and you don't wanna start a new post just for that, go ahead and add a paragraph and indicate that it was edited. If you realise your message doesn't make sense or is misleading, change it and indicate what part was edited. Doing that is okay. But please refrain from deleting parts of your messages.
