Lateral Thinking XII is also know as: "Einstein´s Riddle"
Here we go...
There are 5 houses in 5 different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. The 5 owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet. No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar, or drink the same beverage.
Somebody owns a fish. The question is: who?

I gotta ask, doesn't the first house mean it's the left one? How can there be two left houses? I don't understand.
Or what does first house mean?
Aside from that great riddle...
See ya

I think there are six properties that you have to assign to the 5 houses in this riddle: house number, house colour, nationality, beverage, cigar, and pet. Number the houses 1 to 5 and assume a smaller number is "to the left" of a bigger number, and vice versa. First house probably means house number 1.
That was pretty good. Took me about a half an hour. edit2: OK, forty-five minutes.
Spoiler:
edit: nvm, forgot something...
...OK, here goes:
The Norwegian lives in the first house, which is yellow, drinks water, smokes Dunhill, and has a cat.
The Dane lives in the second house, which is blue, drinks tea, smokes Blends, and has a horse.
The Brit lives in the third house, which is red, drinks milk, smokes Pall Mall(surprise surprise), and has a bird.
The German lives in the fourth house, which is green, drinks coffee, smokes Prince, and has the fish!
The Swede lives in the fifth house, which is white, drinks beer, smokes Bluemaster, and has dogs.

"The green house is on the left and next to the white house."
This statement is quite confusing. I think it would be better to change it to:
"The green house is on the left of the white house and next to the white house."
Because when we separated "The green house is on the leftand next to the white house."
Some or most(those have not saw this riddle before and those who did not search for other sources) will think that the green house is on the left-most, not left of the white house.(just like googleearth and yeah..me too, when I decided to answer it again...)
Saw this riddle in the past and have double checked, they used
"The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house." or
"The green house is on the left of the white house."
Well...just a suggestion, thanks for the riddle
Looking forward to Lateral Thinking XIII
