So early in the morning that the bus is pitch dark between streetlights. On the length of the night-black highway the only illumination comes from the backlit screen in my hand. The rain-drenched road absorbs more light than usual, and passing vehicles raise a fine mist of glitter in the lights of head and tail. Trees are indistinguishable masses of deeper shadow against the dark raincloud sky. The streetlights and city lights look lost and lonely in the wet-dark air. Mostly it is just us on the dark road, traveling between the shadow-masses I know from brighter journeys on this road are trees.

Something I wrote on the bus very early this morning and felt like sharing.
