The main focus of the game is therefore on the diplomatic interactions between the players, not on the tactical movements of the units.

like i say.. i am a RISK player and all i do is to convince people to support and send theirs Units and coordinate a join attack on certain people *cough* Moho *cough*.

First off, in this game, anything that is not explicitly forbidden (see RULES) is a legal diplomatic method. And, just to make that clear - these few forbidden things aren't even part of the official rules, but House Rules I introduced in order to avoid conflict and problems in the forums themselves. There are Diplomacy circles in which cracking your opponent's password and reading his PMs is a legal tactic (just to make that clear, here it is, of course, forbidden). So, basically, we're playing "softcore" Diplomacy
Therefore, xpon's tactic is completely legal.

As I said above, it is not forbidden. Whether it's a good strategy or not is something you need to find out yourself.

Just as a side note - usually, Portugal and Spain do end up French. There are a few SCs that nearly always go to one power, and for France, they are Spain and Portugal. (Germany: Den, Hol; Britain: Nor; A-H: Ser; Italy: Tun; Ottoman: Bul; Russia: Rum, often also Swe)

With a sad smile, the Ottoman Sultan looked upon the map presented to him by his advisers. Even though all of them agreed that there was still hope, the Sultan couldn't see it. He was surrounded by enemies, who heavily outnumbered his own forces, and there was no help in sight. He was lost. It was the truth. Most likely, the Sultan would have continued to brood over the miseries of life, hadn't a servant suddenly interrupted him. "Milord, there is a messenger for you, from one of the great powers. It seems his interest is to form an alliance". That caught the Sultan's attention. Perhaps not all is lost he thought, as he left the room in order to meet the foreign diplomat...
