Re: Mafia Round 58: Professor Layton and the Immortal Gem [Day 7]
"Professor, we found it!"
Layton turned to see Emmy running toward him, waving a book in the air. Grosky was jogging next to her, with Sammy idly walking along behind with Luke. When she reached him, Emmy held out the tome.
"This is the one that was stolen when Dimitri was attacked."
The Professor took the book from her hands and examined it. It was bound in black leather and didn't appear to have any sort of title on the front.
"Where on earth did you find it?"
The assisstant looked a bit embarrassed and scratched her cheek, using the other hand to jerk a thumb behind her.
"Well, it was actually Sammy who found it. Apparently it was in-"
She suddenly went into a coughing fit and fell to her knees. Layton immediately knelt down in front of her, setting the book down to the side to try and help.
"E-emmy!?" Luke hurried over to the two, arms flailing as he tried to figure out what to do. Sammy stood nearby with a worried expression on his face, but didn't move closer. After a minute, Emmy(Akai) collapsed, unconscious. Grosky glanced over at the other man and pointed an accusatory finger.
"It was you, wasn't it? You were the one who just 'happened' to find the thing and give it to her, after all."
"Don't look at me, officer man. Why would I, like, do something that would make me look suspicious?" Sammy said.
"Well, whether or not you harmed Emmy is debatable. However...."
Layton stood, picking up the tome and looking at a piece of paper in his hands.
"It seems she did find out you are a member of the group who is out to take the gem for themselves, Mr. Thunder."
Sammy(Tequila) looked around at the others in surprise before sighing and holding his hands in the air in defeat.
"Yeah, okay man. You got me. I wasn't really digging the whole 'attacking people' thing anyway."
Summary: Sammy (Tequila) was lynched and Emmy (Akai) was poisoned.

What limits are you referring to? I am just doing my job.

We do not just back away because something could be dangerous.
~o~
Will I be not putting more danger to the people around me if I don't do anything? And that's no reason one should hide behind a mask.
~o~
I am not forgetting that someone did ask for my help in a letter, so I am not really stealing anyone else's job.

Descole sat impatiently in his seat, tapping a finger on his arm. He was finally on his way back to Japan, though the letter he had just gotten back in response from Layton didn't make him feel all that much better about returning....
"Descole,
I'm glad you recieved my letter about the book. I'm not quite sure if it will help, but it would be best to have another opinion on it. Inside was also a peculiar note that I think you need to see....
In more troubling news, Mr. Whistler(Kir) has gone missing. Whether he left on his own or not... I'm unsure. I am rather worried now. Of the twenty-two people who began this search, only seven remain. And the amount of those who have been attacked is quickly growing...
I hope your trip back if a safe one.
Sincerely,
Hershel Layton"
Something desperately needed to be done about this situation. Though the lead was helpful, finding the jewel didn't seem like much of a priority right now. With all of the incidents that had occured recently, a decsion on how to proceed needed to be made.
Though, I do have to wonder....
The masked man read though the beginning of the letter again.
What does he mean by 'peculiar note'?
Summary: Oswald(Kir) was killed.

Job? More like a fool's errand. You and I both know perfectly well the danger it carries.
~o~
Oh? So you'd be willing to put the people around you in danger? Because unlike myself and that thief, you don't have a mask to hide behind. And they will exploit that.

It's not as though they'll be allowed to find the gem just because you stop looking. He already said he'd take care of it. If you want to be such a gentleman, then you wouldn't want steal someone else's job.

Ah, yes, that mysterious 'concerned' person who put everyone else at risk in the first place. I'm sure their request completely justifies continuing.

Hmm... the reaction towards my return seems a bit... lacking. Perhaps I should make a grander entrance....
