Re: Detective/Intellectual showdown poll
The poll should say Arthur Conan Doyle instead of Sherlock Holmes and Gosho Aoyama instead of everone else xD

Sherlocks Holmes is to Detectives as Michael Jackson is to Music....it's just not fair to compare the greatest to others =/

This is really hard to choose
My head spin just reading the char
There's so many
Then I stop in the middle and thinking 400 IQ

Holmes will always be one step above Shinichi/Heiji, because he has nothing to lose. he is not riddled by emotions. it doesn't make Holmes a better or more likeable person, but it makes him a better detective. :/
the other characters i feel are on a different scale because although they display a high level of intelligence/reasoning, they just don't use it as much, and so they are not as good!
Poirot I have a lot of respect for, and I like him in a different way, but I just prefer Holmes' methods of running around and getting dirty and examining the evidence for himself :p

Heroin? Holmes was an occasional user of cocaine (quite different) and morphine (similar chemically to heroin, though not nearly as bad), but there's no story where he uses heroin afaik.Abs. wrote: Also, the heroin.

"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."
