WAR!!! Ran vs. Kazuha, Round Four!

We know from Moonlight Sonata that Ran can play piano. We learned in Music Box (v26.f9) that she can write out the score to Come Spring in Western musical notation from memory. (Shin'ichi/Conan at the time could only copy the pitch of the notes, not much else.) I'd think memorizing scores is a bit beyond basics (though Come Spring looks pretty simple), but I'm not at all a musician...

Okay, at the risk of starting a War, I'll say Kazuha would be the better choice. Ran has shown that she does have a good amount of knowledge and brain power but she seems to lack the ability to apply that knowledge. The Convenience Store Trap and The Monster of the Tottori Spider Mansion are examples where Ran either falls to self inflicted pressure or needs an outside source to confirm her abilities/decisions. Kazuha seems to have more confidence(than the current Ran) and this would apply to her notes. In Which One's Reasoning Show?, though getting hints from Shinichi and Heiji, she appeared to digest the information better than Ran would and had the confidence to say her answer without the fear of being wrong or "making things worse"(Yes, Ran did jump in at the end showing that she could follow the clues also but Ran only spoke after seeing Kazuha speak, confidence issue?). So this leads me to believe that Kazuha's notes would be more specific on the materials that are going to be on the test.  

The way I retain notes for test is by memory and applying the knowledge. So for a person like myself, Ran's notes wouldn't be good. I don't see Ran having the confidence to take the gamble and say "well I should only focus this and ignore these 4 chapters because this section won't probably be on the final", and instead she would focus on everything to feel secure(explains all the pages she had for Shinichi  ;D). So using Ran's notes would be equivalent of using reading the source material, only that Ran just most likely broke down the information for easier memorization. Kazuha's notes on the other hand I can see being more specific and covering the things that she feels would be on the test, making it easier and less time consuming for me to memorize it and find a way to apply it, so it can stay memorized. Of course, there's a gamble that something you decided not to review would be on the test and you are screwed..but if you made the right call,which isn't hard by paying attention, chances are you covered the correct material and will be able to answer them more efficiently and with more information because you didn't focus on needless material.

Plus, Kazuha yelling at me in Osaka-ben while chasing me to give her, her notes back is much funnier than Ran doing it. While mangaluva chases Kazuha for her shorts of course. Good times.

This question really isn't fair for Kazuha as we don't have much evidence in her favor. I demand a question about Kabuki next! Something Kazuha can easily defeat Ran in.

Memorizing doesn't have much to do with music. I know some who are good, but they don't have good memory so they can't memorize easily. I have a very good memory so I memorize unintentionally a lot of things I play. I still remember note by note, stuff that I played 5 years ago and I remember the whole second suite of Bach (for flute) note by note...and many more (including anime OPs, EDs, jazz pieces, musical pieces, rock pieces, classical pieces and many other pieces).

Regarding Ran on the piano, it depends how good she is. I don't usually play on the piano, but I have the basics on it (and I'm forced to do that as well in college).
Too bad the characters' hobbies don't come more often and we only see them in cases when it has something to do with the case or help Conan.

I agree. Ran can be very serious when she studies. So I would rather have her helping me study for that big test...heck maybe Conan-Kun could hang around I always wanted to get to know that currently small detective

I like both characters, but I feel this round's question was not fair for Kazuha, since we only saw Ran's educational back ground, basically the moment I read the question, I knew who will win this round.

True, is to bad that we don´t know much about Kazuha study skills, but still I think that Ran is more reliable in this kind of things .

Ran is very smart, and good at school, even when she, Kogoro and Conan go out to dinner, she kept studing for her test (episode 284). She takes notes of the class for Shinichi and she is good even in english –she can follow english convertation, like we saw  in the "Kudo Shinichi in New York" case- so, I think that you always can count on her to study and help you get a good score in your test .
