I Need a Manga Recommendation

Alright so, as we all know, fans of DC usually have the best taste when it comes to anime. It's a given since they like DC. :P
I need new manga, I'm open to all ideas as I've never excluded myself to a specific genre. We should just avoid ones that may raise an eyebrow from the wife.

My terms are:
- It must be localized in English
- It must be finished
- It at least should be popular enough to find on Amazon, bookstores, etc. For example, I bought two volumes of Karin and regretted it, because I simply can't find the rest (not easily at least!)

I have a manga library, and it currently contains:
- Azumanga Daioh
- Rosario + Vampire 2
- Usagi Drop
- K-On! (bad choice haha)
- Bakuman
- Around 20+ volumes of Conan (obviously, looking for more too! ;D)

Ummmm.... Randomly picks one that fits requirements: Baby and Me. It has 18 volumes. Only problem will be finding volume 3 (only way to get it is used or kindle afaik).
Of course there're also online manga sites that have Volumes 3 and 10 in full. *cough cough*

Rurouni Kenshin is the best combination of good and popular (in America) manga I can think of that is finished. That I've read all of at least.

AKA CHAN TO BOKU!

Ohhhh man, memories! I used to love watching that anime back in the day. I would kill to find it in manga form, alas, as you probably said, I would probably need to really kill. :(

I still have the entire series in VHS, though. Now that I think about it, I should get around to watching it again.

How does it compare to Vagabond? I've seen Rurouni Kenshin in my local bookstore, but the guy running the shop told me that Vagabond is much more superior.

I would not know, I've never read Vagabond. "Much more" superior though, I kinda doubt it, Kenshin is a very good series.

I think it was pretty popular in Arabic countries (correct me if I'm wrong), and Japan obv. Anyway, I love it and I'd like to thank my fangirliness for Kappei for finding it *_*

Oyasumi Punpun, 20th Century Boys, Pluto, Monster, Death Note and Battle Angel Alita are pretty popular and good.

I doubt you can find these but...
I'm reading Ikigami atm and it's really great series of short stories about people's last day because of national prosperity thing where they get injected when they start school and in their 30s or so they die.

Tsumi to Batsu is a great story about handling a planned murder and the pressure from it.

Detective Academy Q is another detective series.

This might actually be a better choice than mine. 20th Century Boys is great. Amazing even.

That being said, I had an absurd experience constantly failing to find volume 3 (or most volumes) of Monster, so I can't recommend it as something you can actually find after that ridiculous experience (coincidentally, same author as 20th Century Boys).

Well, to be fair, I took what he said with a grain of slat, since I haven't read either. :p

He seemed really obsessed with Vagabond anyway, so he's definitely biased haha.

A lot of the anime that was produced before the new millennium gained worldwide spread during the 80's and 90's. TMS and Nippon Animation had their prime in the 80's, and to a greater extent, the 90's as well. Things like the Future Boy Conan, World Masterpiece Theater (Remi, Anne, Sara, Romeo, etc), Captain Tsubasa, Chibi Maruko Chan, Moero Top Striker, Aka Chan to Boku, etc etc, got localized in many countries and were a massive hit worldwide.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've already finished Death Note, and had 20th Century Boys spoiled on me. ):

I researched the rest, Oyasumi Punpun interested me the most, but it doesn't seem like it got localized. Bummer...
Pluto looks good too though, and is actually fully released by Viz! Wow! Thanks for that!
Ikigami too, this is going great. (:

I'll try going to my local bookstore some time soon and see their availability. Thanks everyone!

Most of the good, finished manga that I can think of are shoujo... Ouran High School Host Club, Fruits Basket, Fushigi Yuugi, Sailor Moon, and Ceres: Celestial Legend are all good, IMO, depending on what your preferred ratio of plot to crack is.

On the shonen side, Battle Royale is good if you've got the stomach for gore, and I really enjoy the original Yu-Gi-Oh manga (the early volumes are extremely light on card games since they're mostly from before the game was invented, but they are fairly high on the protagonist setting people on fire) and Yuu Yuu Hakusho is also pretty good. All finished, all localized in English, and last I checked, all available on Amazon and even in my local Forbidden Planet so probably available in any larger store with a sizeable selection of manga.
