I don't like this, I know it doesn't affect me but it takes away peoples right to think for themselves. And it does seem like it takes away things that aren't harmful as well.

Same thing I get annoyed with, I get no rights just because I am a few years young!nomemory wrote: I don't like this, I know it doesn't affect me but it takes away peoples right to think for themselves. And it does seem like it takes away things that aren't harmful as well.

You are young and frankly you shouldn't read some things, although some of those things seems like things no one should read, really. But that is what you have parents for, to decide what you shouldn't get to read. That and your own mind. But this law is censoring away things that really aren't inappropriate if I have understood it correctly.Xcommando wrote: Same thing I get annoyed with, I get no rights just because I am a few years young!

Re: I hate censorship
to use a more extreme example: If you ask a 10 year old whether they'd rather have a balanced dinner with fruits and veggies or a dinner consisting solely of ice cream, they'll without fail choose the ice cream dinner because ice cream is totally awesome. However, it will lead to them taking in huge amounts of empty calories and little nutrients that they need, perhaps leading to stunted growth, obesity and health problems in the future. When I was a kid, you can be sure that I didn't want to eat my veggies, but if I ever have a kid, you can be sure that I'll make them eat their veggies anyway.Xcommando wrote: But what I don't understand is why I can't decide for myself.
Similarly, there are some more impressionable 14 year olds who would have their view on things changed if they saw some of the more extreme stuff in manga that's out there.
I don't really think that there's a question that kids do need to be regulated in what they do (sorry xcom ), but I just think it should be the kid's parents doing the regulating, not the government (as certain kids are more mature than others at the same age, are able to handle more stuff etc).

This man's books are available to children and in all honestly they sound far more harmful than a little breast jiggle covered in steam on some late night anime.

Re: I hate censorship
I was surprised by the clever questioning by that female interviewer. She's tactics doesn't feel Japanese (polite with out reason etc), she got ishihara in the corner at some point. And yes, Ishihara sounds like an idiot, but most Tokyotes support him.Xcommando wrote:This moron governor really pisses me off. Re: I hate censorship
Indeed. (Quite some necromancy, though...)
Ironically, Germany's parliament passed a new law recently, after the old one had been declared unconstitutional, allowing police access to private data even for misdemeanors. I think it's quite hilarious - the Bundesverfassungsgericht (Federal Constitutional Court) has repeatedly declared in the past that such an invasion of privacy is only constitutional if it is due to a major crime (murder, terrorism, what-have-you). Obviously, the new law is pretty much guaranteed to be ruled unconstitutional, too, and to noone's surprise, it has already been challenged. I mean, why do they even bother passing a law like that? :x
