Everything Macross

Post by sdf1macross »

I wanted to start a thread about Macross for a while, but even though is a very popular anime in Japan it seems to me that people in the forums don't know about it too much or they just don't like it period, I've read the "other favorite animes" thread and I didn't see any Macross, except for me of course, LOL, anyway as a new movie is about to hit theaters in Japan in a couple of days, all the expectation is overwhelming me so I decided to start a thread, if anyone wants to know anything about it, or share thoughts about Macross, from any of the series, or argue about the difference between Macross and Robotech, or anything Macross related or even Robotech related this is the place.

It's coming already? The Frontier movie? Any links to trailers or anything?

Cool cool cool. Let Sheryl/Ranka love resume. (yay Sheryl).

Movie is coming out in theaters tomorrow in Japan 11/21, we'll have to wait until is released on dvd to get a good quality torrent, I'm sure there will be somebody that will upload a screenie of it eventually, I will keep this thread updated.

This movie is a retelling of the Macross Frontier series with a few new twists, a couple months ago it was comfirmed that a second Frontier movie it's on the works for a 2010 release.

Few new twists? You mean what if Alto was a man?

Well I'm a huge mecha nerd so the macross series takes a special place in my heart <3.

The mecha part anyways, Frontier romance didn't grow on me.
Hey, I have an idea, let's have a THIS SUCKS / NO THIS SUCKS / NO YOU / NO YOU argument for a couple pages, that will really be great. - Ingmar

If that is the case you should try the Macross Ace Frontier or Macross Ultimate Frontier games for the PSP, they will blow your mind if you like the Macross Mecha.

I know a little about Robotech. All I know about Macross is it was 'changed' to become part one of Robotech.

Question What Time Line / Universe does Frontier fit in?

Question What Time Line / Universe does Frontier fit in?
Macross was brought to the U.S due to the huge success it had in Japan, However back then (1985) syndicated television required a minimum of 65 episodes  (thirteen weeks at five episodes per week), but Macross only had 36, in order to market Macross in the U.S Harmony Gold bought the rights to two other unrelated anime, produce by the same company that produced Macross, and put them all together, they changed the characters names the dialogues and storylines and created Robotech, so each one the series Macross, Southern Cross and Mospeada are refered as The Macross Saga, The Robotech Masters Saga and the New Genetarion.
Because of this it has been nearly impossible to market all the other Macross series and its toys in the U.S due to an ongoing legal battle between Harmony Gold and the right holder of Macross in Japan as to which company has the rights to sell the Macross' products outside of Japan.

To answer your question Macross Frontier it is not part of the Robotech universe, but to the Macross one, is the latest series and set in the year 2059.

Macross TimeLine

Macross Zero (Prequel) 2008
Macross 2009-2012
Macross Plus 2040
Macross 7 2045-2046
Macross Frontier 2059
