I will be posting partial screen captures of something notable from the SoCal airings. First up, an amazing instance of a broken spellchecker or wordwrap from 293.
From 298. I know, broken record. However, is there no quality control over there? Somebody must be able to read English. When you cannot even properly assemble letters to spell individual words, people reading the subs get annoyed. Either that, or they think the subbers are just incompetent.
For 301, the fansub title was used. However, "and" replaced "of" but "and" was misspelled. How can anyone misspell "and"? When the next episode is named at the end, the title is somehow correct. Only thing wrong is that the next episode is also a "Part 1."
Gotta be consistent as well as catch the typos. In 302, the clock is visible onscreen (2:23pm), yet the sub says 2;23. Seven seconds later, there is the clock again showing 2:38pm. This time, the sub switches to a 24 hour format and says 14:38.
If UTB's subs are considered official, then what are Crunchyroll's? Official, but with quality control? Seriously though, I hope they do a better job than UTB.
One negative is Crunchyroll is going to start in the late 700's. Furthermore, it might take years before they sub everything before that. I guess they could just skip AO's. But, I remember when everybody here wanted even the crappiest AO subbed even before main plot cases simply because nobody wanted to miss a single episode.
Most people will probably just watch fansubs to catch up — the simulcast is really intended for current fans who've been following the series for years through fansubs.
For some unknown reason, the subber decided to change the spelling of Miwako's last name near the end of part A of 304. Instead of "Sato", the sub uses "Satoh".
At first, I was going to complementary for a change since 304 is one of the better episodes. Then, I watched the finish where the villian's hint was different than what was said earlier in the case. Seems obvious to me that there are multiple people doing the subbing. That's fine, but somebody should proofread the subs and make them identical for consistency.
Part D
I am a Major Leaguer, a strong pitcher as well as batter. Here goes the beginning of an extended game. No use getting ready a good stopper, I'm winning in the end.
Part B
I am a major league player who hits and throws well. Now is the beginning of an extended game. It's no use preparing a good stopper, I will win in the end.
